In 2024 alone, Long An plans to develop social housing with a total floor area of over 575,000 square meters, equivalent to over 11,500 units, contributing to meeting the housing needs of workers and laborers in the area. The 2024-2025 phase is expected to continue with 19 projects covering an area of over 83 hectares – more than 24,000 units. By 2030, the province aims to achieve the target of 71,250 units of social housing as set by the Government.
The leaders of the Long An Department of Construction said that there are currently 26 industrial parks in the province capable of receiving investors. According to the plan, by 2030, this number will increase to 51 industrial parks with a total area of nearly 13,000 hectares. The current number of workers in industrial parks is approximately 212,000, and it is expected to increase to about 305,000 workers by 2030. However, the implementation of social housing projects in the area is facing many obstacles and difficulties, such as land clearance, land transfer procedures for social housing construction sites, and project owners not meeting the criteria for accessing preferential capital sources.
To overcome the difficulties mentioned above, the Long An Provincial People’s Committee has assigned the Department of Construction, along with relevant departments, branches, district-level governments, and city governments, to focus on implementing specific tasks and solutions. Accordingly, it is necessary to review and develop targets for the development of social housing in the area during the 2021-2025 period, with a focus on the direction towards 2030. In this regard, specific difficulties and obstacles need to be clearly identified for focused resolution.
The Long An Provincial People’s Committee also urgently requires localities to coordinate with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment and the Department of Construction to reassess construction planning, land use planning that has already been prepared, and planning that will be implemented in the near future. The aim is to propose suitable land planning positions to help concentrate the investment in social housing in accordance with the directives of the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People’s Council.
Long An also implements synchronized policies on land, investment, construction; taxes and policies for workers; and unique policies of the province to create favorable conditions for the development of social housing. The locality encourages and attracts businesses to actively participate in the development of social housing in the province.
“Long An is always open to welcoming investors to participate in implementing social housing development projects,” said Mr. Huynh Van Son, Vice Chairman of the Long An Provincial People’s Committee.
