Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Nguyễn Thị Minh Thuý, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of An Giang province, emphasized that mangoes are a key crop with high economic value and have made a positive contribution to the province’s agricultural growth.

As of now, the total area of mango cultivation in the province has reached over 12,600 hectares, with an output of over 225,000 tons per year. Chợ Mới district has the largest mango cultivation area in the province with 6,400 hectares, accounting for over 50% of the total mango cultivation area in the province; of which, the main concentration is in 3 communes: Tấn Mỹ, Mỹ Hiệp, and Bình Phước Xuân.

Thanks to the promotion of the application of advanced scientific and technical achievements in production, the mango cultivation area in Chợ Mới has reached 704 hectares according to VietGAP standards, with 41 zone codes for cultivation on an area of nearly 6,200 hectares, and has been exported to markets such as China, the United States, South Korea, Japan, and Australia.

Ms. Nguyễn Thị Minh Thuý, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of An Giang province.

“An Giang is delighted and proud that Chợ Mới has exported green-skinned mango products to the United States and Australia at the beginning of 2024 (on January 5). And today, that joy is multiplied as Chợ Mới continues to export small-sized sand mangoes to the South Korean market.

This is the great effort and strong endeavor of Party committees, local authorities, businesses, especially cooperatives and people of Chợ Mới district over the past 10 years of difficult and challenging negotiations,” said Ms. Thúy.

This is the next batch of mangoes from Chợ Mới exported to demanding markets.

According to Mr. Nguyễn Minh Hiền, Director of the GAP Cù Lao Giêng Cooperative (Chợ Mới district), the cooperative has signed contracts with over 100 official members and formed partnerships in the supply of materials and product consumption with a total area of over 70 hectares, estimated to yield over 1,700 tons.

“I hope that in the future, all members of the cooperative will be more confident in applying scientific and technological advances to produce high-quality products for demanding markets,” Mr. Hiền said.

Chợ Mới is moving towards exporting tons of mangoes each year through signing consumption contracts with export companies.

Delighted by the consecutive exports of mango batches to demanding markets, Mr. Cù Minh Trọng – Chairman of the People’s Committee of Chợ Mới district – affirmed that Chợ Mới mangoes have initially affirmed their position in the international market.

“This is a significant turning point event for the district’s agriculture, not only bringing great economic opportunities but also promoting the image and reputation of Chợ Mới agricultural products in the international market,” stated Mr. Trọng.
