According to Người Lao Động news, from March 5th, the HCMC People’s Court has held a trial for the defendants in the case related to Vạn Thịnh Phát company. The trial is expected to last until April 29th.
The Supreme People’s Procuracy has prosecuted the defendant Trương Mỹ Lan and 85 other defendants for various crimes: Embezzlement, Violating regulations on banking activities, Giving bribes, Receiving bribes, Abusing authority and responsibilities while performing official duties, and Causing serious consequences due to negligence.
Đinh Văn Thành is currently wanted
Among the defendants, there are 5 individuals who are currently wanted. The indictment stated that these defendants actively assisted Trương Mỹ Lan in withdrawing money from SCB Bank, causing significant damage.
The 5 defendants are:
1. Nguyễn Lâm Anh Vũ (born in 1962, from Ho Chi Minh City; former Deputy Director of SCB Bank Branch in Ben Thanh): From August 13th, 2014 to August 31st, 2015, Nguyễn Lâm Anh Vũ signed 112 loan files, causing a damage of 3,762 billion VND to SCB Bank.
2. Trầm Thích Tồn (born in 1961, from Tra Vinh; member of the SCB Bank’s Board of Directors): From July 25th, 2012 to May 24th, 2013, Trầm Thích Tồn signed 80 loan files, causing a damage of 7,176 billion VND to SCB Bank.
3. Chiêm Minh Dũng (born in 1973, from Can Tho; former Deputy General Director of SCB Bank): From November 20th, 2012 to April 4th, 2019, Chiêm Minh Dũng signed 362 loan files, causing a damage of 140,713 billion VND to SCB Bank.
4. Nguyễn Thị Thu Sương (born in 1974, from Ho Chi Minh City: former Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of SCB Bank): From July 25th, 2012 to July 30th, 2013, Nguyễn Thị Thu Sương signed 79 loan files, causing a damage of 6,989 billion VND to SCB Bank.
5. Đinh Văn Thành (born in 1971, from Ho Chi Minh City; former Chairman of the Board of Directors of SCB Bank): From June 28th, 2012 to October 19th, 2017, Đinh Văn Thành signed 174 loan files, causing a damage of 42,770 billion VND to SCB Bank.
From February 9th, 2018 to December 6th, 2020, Đinh Văn Thành signed 305 loan files, actively assisting Trương Mỹ Lan in misappropriating an amount of 189,103 billion VND and causing a damage of 99,677 billion VND.
The HCMC People’s Court called on the defendants to surrender themselves to enjoy the leniency policy of the Communist Party and the State, to cooperate with the prosecuting agencies to ensure the right to defense and self-defense.
If the defendants do not surrender or turn themselves in, it will be considered as giving up their right to defense, and they will be tried in absentia.
