According to CarNewsChina, the pure electric version of the Deepal SL03 2024 sedan was launched in China on February 20. Chinese media confirms that the starting price is now over 27,000 Chinese yuan (3,750 USD) cheaper than the 2023 models. The cheapest EV version on the Dongchedi comparison site showed that it is actually 3,000 Chinese yuan cheaper. However, the difference is not only in price but also in operating range.
The car has three versions: 530 Plus with a starting price of 21,800 USD, 530 Max with a price of 22,800 USD, and the highest-end version 610 Max priced at 24,200 USD. Both the 530 Plus and Max versions have a range of 530 and 610 km per charge, according to CLTC standards, replacing the old models with ranges of 515 km and 705 km.
Deepal is a brand owned by Changan and is currently selling new energy vehicles in China and Thailand. First launched in 2022, the SL03 is the brand’s first car. The Changan Deepal SL03 is positioned in the mid-size sports sedan segment and can be seen as a potential competitor to the Honda CR-V.
Experts were surprised when Deepal chose to reduce the operating range with the initial specifications of the SL03. In the high-end version, the battery size is significantly reduced from 80.0 kWh to 66.8 kWh. In return, the brand reduced the price by 23,000 Chinese yuan (3,200 USD) compared to the old model priced at 27,400 USD. The two 530 models are equipped with a 58.9 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, larger than the 58.1 kWh of the old 515 model.
The 530 versions are equipped with a 160 horsepower engine, while the 610 version has a power of 190 horsepower. Both are synchronous permanent magnet motors mounted on the rear axle and both produce 320 Nm of torque. The 610 series has a faster acceleration time at 6.2 seconds compared to 6.9 for the 530 series.
More competitive prices may support sales as China is witnessing intense competition in the electric vehicle market. The size of the car remains unchanged with the length, width, and height of the car at 4820/1890/1480 mm, and the wheelbase is 2900 mm.
Inside the car, the interior is quite simple with an LCD instrument display and a two-spoke steering wheel. The 14.6-inch central screen can rotate 15° towards the driver or passenger. The Max versions come with augmented reality displays and all versions have integrated dashcams
Other features include a 40W wireless mobile phone charger, Bluetooth NFC key, transparent engine bay, and Max versions have a 64-color ambient lighting system and anti-glare mirror.
There is currently no update on the extended range version (EREV) of the SL03 announced.
