During a relatively unstable month for the entire market, sales of urban SUVs also showed instability. While popular names like Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta only recorded sales of 400-500 units in January 2024, the unexpected leader of the segment was the Honda HR-V. The urban SUV from Honda achieved sales of 801 units, exceeding the sales in December 2023, while most of its direct competitors experienced a sharp decline.
This sales figure helped Honda’s urban SUV rank among the top 5 best-selling cars in the market, surpassing other popular names such as Toyota Vios, Kia Seltos, and Honda City.
Meanwhile, compared to the final month of 2023, several names such as Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, and Toyota Yaris Cross experienced a significant decline in sales. For example, Hyundai Creta only achieved sales of 413 units compared to 1,953 units the previous month, Kia Seltos decreased by 751 units, and Toyota Yaris Cross sold only 1,224 units.
However, the most disappointing name must be the Toyota Yaris Cross, which only achieved sales of 171 units last month, lower than most of its competitors. Even in December 2023, Corolla Cross sold only 423 units, much lower than the other names in the segment.
One of the reasons given is the unstable supply of Corolla Cross recently. In addition, there is information that the facelift version of Corolla Cross will be delivered in May. In reality, the sales of Toyota Corolla Cross have shown signs of decline in the past few months, resulting in sales in 2023 reaching only over 10,000 units, half of the previous year.
In the A-segment urban SUV segment, the Kia Sonet continues to perform outstandingly with sales of 710 units. The Toyota Raize sold 263 units, while the newest name in this segment, the Hyundai Venue, achieved 190 units, which is 10 units higher than the previous month. The Venue may be an “unknown variable” in this segment in the coming months.
