Big German technology giant sends positive signals

On the afternoon of February 27, Mr. Tran Sy Thanh, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Hanoi City, received Mr. Roland Busch, Chairman and CEO of Siemens Group (Federal Republic of Germany), who is currently on a visit and working trip to Vietnam.

The Chairman of the People’s Committee of Hanoi City hopes that this working visit by Chairman Roland Busch will lay the groundwork for specific projects in the period 2030-2035.

In response, Chairman and CEO of Siemens Roland Busch affirmed that Vietnam, with a population of over 100 million and a priority for green and clean economic development, digitalization strategy will be a highly potential “land” for companies worldwide, including Germany.

Sharing more about future plans, Siemens Group’s leadership wants to participate in cooperation to implement Urban Railway Line 5. Because the group has strengths and experience in developing high-speed railways, railcars, railway signal systems.

According to Mr. Roland Busch, Siemens is currently applying cutting-edge technology – based on AI platform in projects. At the same time, some projects have saved and efficiently used energy for buildings, technology to convert waste into energy…

Chairman of the People’s Committee of Hanoi City, Tran Sy Thanh, proposed that Siemens consider more carefully the cooperation potential in the development of Hanoi’s urban railway transport infrastructure, as well as attract and gather the German expert community and businesses in related fields, to bridge and enhance cooperation with the capital city.

Scale of Urban Railway Line 5

Metro Line 5 in Hanoi has a total length of 38.43km, built according to double-track and electrified standards. There are 6.5km underground, 2km elevated and 29.93km on the ground, passing through Ba Dinh, Dong Da, Cau Giay, Nam Tu Liem districts and Hoai Duc, Quoc Oai, Thach That districts.

It is estimated that this route will operate from 25-40 trains with a design speed of 120km/h and reduced to 90km/h for the underground section, along with a waiting time of about 3.3 minutes.

The project has a total investment capital of up to 65,404 billion VND, of which construction costs are 24,844 billion VND and equipment costs are 16,629 billion VND. This will be the largest invested metro project in Hanoi by the time the feasibility study report is completed.

The People’s Committee of Hanoi City plans to allocate 15,000 billion VND from public investment capital and save on expenses in the period 2021-2025, striving to allocate an average of 3,000 billion VND per year; 10,000 to 12,000 billion VND through equitization and divestment of enterprises; 15,000 billion VND generated from auctioning land plots and 10,000 billion VND from bond issuance; along with 6,900 billion VND borrowed from financial institutions to implement the project.

In terms of progress, the investment preparation phase is from 2018 to 2022, and the project implementation phase is from 2022 to 2026. It is expected that the trial operation and handover of the project will be completed by the end of 2025 and acceptance, finalization will be carried out during the period from 2026 to 2027.

The urban railway system of Hanoi plays a key role in the high-speed public passenger transport system thanks to its large transport capacity, connecting urban areas, industrial zones, commercial-service-tourism centers and schools.

Among the approved railway lines, Line 5, connecting Van Cao to Ngoc Khanh, Lang and Hoa Lac, with a length of about 39km, will be a backbone line linking modern and future urban areas along Thang Long Avenue with the central urban area.

The urban railway project “Line 5, Van Cao – Ngoc Khanh – Lang – Hoa Lac” when completed will become an important part of the overall plan for the development of metro lines according to Decision 519/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister.

Worldwide, Siemens has made a global impact by winning the largest contract ever to build one of the most modern high-speed railway networks in Egypt. The contract is worth a record 8.1 billion euros with provisions for supplying 41 high-speed trains, 94 regional trains and 41 locomotives. In addition, 8 stations will also be built with a 15-year maintenance contract.

With Siemens’ latest technologies, Egypt is promised to own the 6th largest and most modern railway system in the world, reducing CO2 emissions by 70% compared to current bus and car use. The railway network will connect 60 cities in Egypt with high-speed trains traveling at speeds of up to 230km/h.
