Exactly one day after Apple announced its abandonment of the electric car production project (which many people call the iCar), Chery introduced the iCar 03 model in the Chinese market. Apple does not have confidence in the iCar, but Chery is different – they believe they can sell about 10,000 iCars per month.
The iCar 03 has a total of 6 versions, with the lowest price at $15,250 (equivalent to 375 million VND), and the highest at $23,600 (equivalent to 582 million VND).
The iCar 03 uses a compartmentalized body structure, entirely made of aluminum. The length x width x height of the car is 4,406 x 1,910 x 1,715 mm – slightly longer but much wider than the compact SUV currently sold in Vietnam, the Kia Seltos. The wheelbase of the car is 2,715 mm, which is almost equivalent to the VinFast VF 6. The car is equipped with 18 or 19-inch wheels and offers 6 paint colors including white, black, gray, silver, blue, and green.
The media referred to the box at the rear of the car as a “school bag”. The trunk of the car is designed like off-road vehicles with side-opening doors and electric closing.
All versions come with automatic headlights, automatic wipers, roof rails, electronic parking brakes, 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, 2-zone automatic climate control, tire pressure monitoring, a 15.6-inch center screen, and an 8-speaker sound system.
The mid-range versions are equipped with power-folding mirrors, a panoramic sunroof (1.2 m wide), NFC key, 50W wireless charging, 360-degree camera, Qualcomm 8155 chip to control the car’s features, and a dashcam.
Meanwhile, the top-of-the-line versions feature a heated steering wheel, heated and memory seats, power-adjustable passenger seat, side curtain airbags, a 12-speaker sound system, 64-color interior ambient lighting, massage and ventilation for the driver’s seat, and power-adjustable footrest.
The car uses a single-engine, 135 horsepower, maximum torque of 220 Nm for rear-wheel drive. The 4-wheel drive version uses a 279-horsepower engine, maximum torque of 385 Nm, and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds.
Chery is also one of the Chinese car manufacturers actively preparing to enter the Vietnamese market. In the meantime, the company will bring products under its 2 sub-brands, Omoda and Jaecoo, to Vietnam. The models include the Omoda S5 compact sedan, the Omoda C5 compact crossover, and the Jaecoo 7 B+ segment crossover.
