Tomorrow (5-3), the People’s Court of Ho Chi Minh City will try defendant Truong My Lan (born in 1956; Chairman of Vạn Thịnh Phát Group Joint Stock Company) and her husband Chu Lap Co, along with 84 accomplices in the case that occurred at Vạn Thịnh Phát Group Joint Stock Company, Saigon Commercial Bank (SCB), and related companies, units, and organizations (referred to as the Vạn Thịnh Phát case).
Since the morning of 4-3, the People’s Court of Ho Chi Minh City has essentially completed the arrangement of rooms, prepared chairs, screens, and other facilities to serve the trial session.

According to the Decision to bring the case to trial, the Panel of Judges has summoned more than 2,400 individuals with rights and obligations related to the case, including legal entities named as borrowers, recipients of money from SCB, individuals at state banks, individuals named as company representatives, borrowers, mortgagees at SCB, individuals in the SCB staff, and other individuals with rights and obligations related to the case.

Therefore, in addition to arranging connectivity between the two largest rooms, the court has also arranged many seats in the hallway of the trial room.
The trial session is expected to conclude on April 29th, with Judge Pham Luong Toan as the presiding judge, Chief Justice of the Criminal Division of the People’s Court of Ho Chi Minh City. The Supreme People’s Procuracy has assigned 10 prosecutors from the Supreme People’s Procuracy and the People’s Procuracy of Ho Chi Minh City to hold the prosecuting authority.
The Supreme People’s Procuracy has indicted the defendants on 7 charges. Among them, Truong My Lan is indicted on three charges: Bribery, Violation of banking activity regulations, and Embezzlement. 45 former leaders and officials of SCB; 15 former officials of State Bank; 3 former officials of Government Inspectorate; and one former officer of the State Audit Agency have been indicted on charges including Embezzlement, Acceptance of bribes, Abuse of power in the performance of official duties, Serious consequences caused by negligence, and Violation of banking activity regulations.
In connection with the criminal offenses committed by Ms. Truong My Lan and the defendants in the case, the competent authorities have confiscated and seized a large amount of special assets including hundreds of trillions of VND, 15 million USD, and thousands of real estate properties, as well as luxury cars and yachts.
