27 New Durian Plantation Regions for Export

The Plant Protection Bureau (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) has cited the latest updated data from the General Administration of Customs of China on the number of cultivation areas and packaging facilities codes for durian fruits from Vietnam.

Accordingly, Vietnam currently has 876 area codes for growing and packaging rambutan for export to China; of which, 708 area codes for rambutan cultivation have been granted.

The provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Binh Phuoc province said that 27 area codes for rambutan cultivation in the province have just been granted licenses by the General Department of Customs of China, bringing the total number of area codes for rambutan cultivation in the province to 65, ranking fourth in the country in terms of the number of area codes for rambutan cultivation.

Accordingly, the 27 area codes for rambutan cultivation in Binh Phuoc have just been granted licenses with an area of 701.5 hectares and a output of 14,030 tons. The total number of area codes for rambutan cultivation in the province has been increased to 65, with an area of 2,412 hectares.

According to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Binh Phuoc, currently the total area of rambutan trees in the province is 5,300 hectares, with an output of 14,800 tons. The localities with large areas of rambutan trees include Bu Dang, Phu Rieng, Bu Gia Map, and Loc Ninh districts; of which, the Dona variety accounts for 61%, the Ri6 variety accounts for 31%, the Chin Hoa variety accounts for 5%, and other varieties account for 4.3%.

“Currently, the province of Binh Phuoc regularly conducts monitoring and management of area codes for export, which are reported to the Plant Protection Department to provide information to the importing country in order to maintain the area codes for cultivation and packaging facilities. 95% of the fresh rambutan fruit produced by Binh Phuoc is exported to the Chinese market, while the remaining 5% is consumed in the domestic market”, the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Binh Phuoc said.

Area codes for cultivation are identification codes for a cultivation area to monitor and control production, control harmful organisms, and trace the origin of agricultural products.

Presently, Binh Phuoc province has established 31 rambutan cultivation chains; of which, 20 enterprises participate in the chains with 29 cooperatives to establish area codes for cultivation in the province. Binh Phuoc is aiming to increase the rambutan cultivation area to 8,000 – 10,000 hectares in the direction of high-tech agriculture, and establish supply chains to serve export.

To effectively carry out the task of granting and managing area codes for cultivation, recently, the Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee of Binh Phuoc issued a document requesting the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to take the lead and coordinate with units and localities to carry out the task of granting and managing area codes for cultivation according to the regulation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development; providing guidance on procedures and processes for granting area codes for cultivation to organizations and individuals who need them; directing specialized agencies to inspect and supervise the granting and management of area codes for cultivation and the use of area codes for cultivation by organizations and individuals in accordance with regulations.

Binh Phuoc currently has an agricultural production area of 457,000 hectares; of which, perennial trees account for more than 27,600 hectares; industrial and perennial fruit trees account for 429,800 hectares.
