The Ministry of Transport (MOT) has issued a communication on strengthening measures to ensure road traffic safety during the Giap Thin Lunar New Year festival in 2024.
According to the MOT, the demand for travel, tourism, and festivals of the people during the Lunar New Year increases, posing risks of traffic accidents and congestion. Recently, there have been several traffic accidents involving passenger and cargo transportation activities.
In view of this situation, the MOT has requested the Vietnam Road Administration to review the traffic infrastructure system, organize traffic on major highways and national roads, especially on those with only two lanes or without emergency stopping lanes, steep slopes, narrow curve radii, and limited visibility, which pose risks to traffic safety.
The Road Administration must promptly supplement the median barriers, rescue openings at steep sections on highways and national roads nationwide.
The MOT also requests the Departments of Transport to strengthen the inspection and review of road markings, road signs, retroreflective warning devices at intersections, steep slopes, narrow curve radii, and limited visibility, which pose high risks to traffic safety. Moreover, timely remedies must be implemented for damaged and landslide sections; appropriate measures must be taken when incidents and accidents occur, especially on key transport routes, roads leading to major festival areas, and busy tourist destinations.
