What is the leading export item in the first two months of the year?

The export turnover of telephones and components is estimated at 9.58 billion USD in the first 2 months of the year.

 According to data from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, the export of telephones and components in January witnessed a significant increase, with revenue exceeding the 5.5 billion USD threshold, an extraordinary growth rate of 50.4% compared to December 2023 and 11.4% compared to the same period last year.

In February, despite the Tet holidays, the export of this product still earned 4 billion USD. Accumulated for the first 2 months of the year, phones contributed 9.58 billion USD to the total export turnover of nearly 60 billion USD, an increase of 4.1% compared to the same period last year, and also the leading product in terms of export turnover.

The US and China are currently the two largest markets, with revenues of 1.39 billion USD and 734 million USD respectively in January, marking strong growth in trade relations and the recognition of high-quality Vietnamese products.

In January alone, Vietnam exported more than 1.39 billion USD to the US, accounting for 25% of the export markets.

China ranks second with over 734 million USD, accounting for 13%. South Korea ranks third with over 330 million USD, equivalent to 6% of the total.

The export turnover of telephones and components has been continuously increasing as Vietnam continues to attract foreign investors to establish manufacturing factories. Statistics also show that in 2010, the export turnover of components and telephones accounted for only 3.2% of the total export turnover, but from the period 2011-2021, the group of telephones and components increased an average of 34%.

In 2023, the export turnover of various types of telephones and components reached over 52.3 billion USD, a decrease of 9.7% compared to 2022, and it is also the second highest value export product among Vietnam’s exports, second only to computers, electronics, and components.

In the peak year of 2022, the export turnover of telephones and components reached 57.99 billion USD, an increase of 0.81% compared to 2021 and accounted for 15.62% of the total export turnover of the country’s goods.

Data from the General Statistics Office showed that by the end of 2023, Vietnam’s mobile phone production reached more than 197.3 million units, a decrease of 9.9% compared to 2022.
