Selex Motors is known not only as a brand but also as an electric vehicle ecosystem aimed at the future of smart and sustainable transportation, created by two PhDs in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan – Nguyen Huu Phuoc Nguyen, Nguyen Trong Hai, and IoT software technical expert – Nguyen Dinh Quang.

Selex Motors is a Vietnamese startup that was founded in 2018, but it wasn’t until the end of November 2022 that it officially launched its first commercial product called Camel. In August 2023, it also introduced the new Selex Camel 2 model, while also announcing a cold-chain transportation solution for electric motorcycles that is compatible with both Selex Camel 1 and Camel 2.

The listed price of Selex Camel 2 in Hanoi is 24,890,000 VND.

What does Selex Camel 2 have?

Flexible design optimized for cargo and personal use

Selex Camel 2 is designed to optimize transportation and personal use. Compared to previous electric motorcycle models, this new model is shorter with a wheelbase length of 1375 mm, making it convenient for maneuvering in narrow alleys and small lanes.

The ground clearance of the bike has also been raised to 150mm, allowing it to easily overcome rough roads.

The tail and saddle of the bike are designed to be more compact and elegant, but still allow for easy removal and installation of the saddle, enabling users to install small and medium-sized cargo boxes.

Powerful performance, superior loading capacity

With a maximum power of 4000W and a torque of up to 140Nm, an increase of over 40% compared to the previous model, Selex Camel 2 is a powerful bike with a top speed of up to 80km/h and superior climbing ability.

The bike is also equipped with up to 3 standard interchangeable battery packs from Selex, with a maximum range of 150km when equipped with 3 packs.

Both Selex Camel and Selex Camel 2 are electric motorcycle models with superior loading capacity, capable of carrying a weight of up to 225 kg, something that few two-wheeled electric bikes can do.

Emphasis on smooth and safe riding experience

With this new model, Selex Motors’ research team specifically focuses on optimizing ergonomic design to ensure a comfortable and fatigue-free experience for both the rider and passenger after long journeys.

In addition to convenience, intelligence, and cost savings, safety is a key priority for Selex Motors. Selex Motors independently masters advanced technology, owns a factory with a production capacity of 10,000 motorcycles and 50,000 battery packs per year. In particular, it is the only electric vehicle company in Vietnam certified by LG Chem and Samsung SDI for battery safety. Selex Motors’ battery design is also certified by the Ministry of Transport.

Cost savings

According to the company’s introduction, the optimization and innovation of products in the Selex Motors smart electric vehicle ecosystem will help customers save up to 35% on fuel costs per month, 50% on maintenance costs, and 99% of refueling time.

Eliminating the concept of “maximum range”

Selex Camel has eliminated the concept of “maximum range” for electric motorcycles thanks to battery swap stations – also known as the new-generation energy stations. Instead of waiting for 3 to 8 hours to charge, the Selex Camel electric motorcycle can have a fully charged battery in less than 2 minutes and continue the journey. In this way, in real-life situations, Selex electric motorcycle users can travel thousands of kilometers without waiting for a charge, they just need to come to a station and swap the battery.

Currently, Selex Motors has developed a total of 70 battery swap stations in 3 major cities: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Hue. This number continues to increase.

According to Dr. Nguyen Huu Phuoc Nguyen, CEO of Selex Motors, the company’s first target customer group is cargo drivers, making the battery swap station model perfectly suited for them.

“Users only need less than 2 minutes to swap the battery at automatic battery ATM machines. Furthermore, checking the station’s battery location, charging status, usage history, and even remotely locking the bike can all be done using a mobile app. It’s extremely convenient and familiar to tech-based drivers,” CEO Nguyen said on Vietnamnet newspaper.

Dr. Nguyen Huu Phuoc Nguyen shared Selex Motors’ vision on Cong Thuong newspaper. “Electric motorcycles are the immediate focus, and in the future, Selex Motors could expand to electric cars, electric buses… We aspire to become a leading technology corporation in providing sustainable transportation ecosystems for cities not only in Vietnam but also in the region.”
