Tam Dao is a mountainous district in Vinh Phuc province. The population is about 87,000, of which 44% are ethnic minorities. The district covers an area of about 236 km2, of which more than 120 km2 is Tam Dao National Park. The district is mainly located on the mountain range of the same name, with high peaks up to 1,300 m, so it has a cool climate.

With its unique climate, rich natural landscape, and proximity to Hanoi city center (about 70 km), Tam Dao has been discovered and developed as a resort area since 120 years ago by the French. By 2023, the number of tourists visiting Tam Dao district reached nearly 1.4 million (an increase of 39% compared to 2022). Especially, in 2023, Tam Dao town (Tam Dao district) was honored as the “World’s leading town destination” by World Travel Awards for the second consecutive year.

To promote and efficiently exploit the tourism potential of Tam Dao, the provincial People’s Committee has approved the “Tourism development plan of Tam Dao district until 2025, with orientation to 2030”. The objectives of the plan are to focus on constructing and completing infrastructure, especially tourism infrastructure. Developing new tourist attractions, investing in the construction of high-quality tourist spots, promoting and exploiting the advantageous tourism products of the locality…

At the same time, by 2025, the tourism industry in Tam Dao will develop and create its own unique and suitable characteristics, gradually building Tam Dao district into a town. By 2030, Tam Dao district will become a distinctive tourist town, one of the tourist centers of the province and the country, an attractive and friendly destination for tourists.

Recently, Vinh Phuc province has approved the master plan for Vinh Phuc province for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050. In this plan, the province aims to construct 2 new urban railway lines to connect Hanoi City, Noi Bai International Airport with the provincial center, and to connect and develop tourism in Tam Dao. In the picture is a map of the space development orientation until 2030, in which the yellow line with the letter symbol represents the location of the railway line.

The economic scale of Tam Dao district in 2023 is estimated to reach nearly VND 8,000 billion. The average per capita production value is estimated at VND 85 million/person/year. The total state budget revenue in 2023 is estimated at VND 1,800 billion, an increase of 42 times compared to the first year of establishment (2004).

Currently, Tam Dao district has many attractive tourist destinations. A typical example is Tam Dao tourist area, located at an altitude of 900 m above sea level, with both romantic and majestic natural landscapes. Moreover, this place is much closer to Hanoi than other areas with similar climate conditions such as Sapa, Bac Ha (Lao Cai), or Mau Son (Lang Son).

Along with sightseeing, exploring, and checking-in, business activities at tourist destinations in Tam Dao district have also developed strongly, offering a variety of products for tourists to choose from.

Tourism infrastructure in the district has generally been upgraded and expanded. The cable car system and electric vehicle services have made it convenient for tourists to travel. With its potential, advantages, and effective tourism activities, Tam Dao has been increasingly known and loved by domestic and foreign tourists.
