In the 2022-2023 crop year (from October 2022 to September 2023), Vietnam’s coffee exports reached 1.66 million tons, with a record export value of 4.08 billion USD due to high prices. The main export volume continues to be Robusta coffee with 1.49 million tons, valued at over 3.2 billion USD.

According to the Vietnam Coffee-Cocoa Association (VICOFA), the top 10 leading companies in terms of coffee bean exports are: Intimex HCM, Vĩnh Hiệp, Simexco Daklak, Intimex Mỹ Phước, Louis Dreyfus Vietnam, NKG Vietnam, Phúc Sinh, Tuấn Lộc Commodities, Giao dịch Hàng hóa Tây Nguyên and Olam Vietnam.

For roasted and ground instant coffee, the top 10 companies in terms of export value are: Outspan Vietnam, Cà phê Ngon, Nestlé Vietnam, Trung Nguyên Group, Tata Coffee Vietnam, URC Vietnam, Lựa chọn đỉnh, Instanta Vietnam, Iguacu Vietnam and Sucafina Vietnam.

Leading the coffee bean export companies in Vietnam is Intimex Group Joint Stock Company, led by Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO Mr. Đỗ Hà Nam, with an export volume of over 148,500 tons and a value of over 318 million USD.

Known as the “coffee king” of Vietnam, the branch of Trung Nguyen Group – Saigon Coffee Factory, owned by Mr. Đặng Lê Nguyên Vũ, ranks 4th among the top 10 roasted and ground instant coffee export companies with an export volume of over 14,700 tons and a revenue of nearly 74.6 million USD.

Intimex Group was established in 1995 as a joint stock company under the equitization of Intimex Import-Export Branch in Ho Chi Minh City under the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The company officially started its operation on July 1, 2006. In 2011, it changed its name to Intimex Group Joint Stock Company.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Intimex Group is Mr. Đỗ Hà Nam. He is also the Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Coffee-Cocoa Association (VICOFA).

Starting as a company with three small branches, including 91 employees and a charter capital of VND 14.4 billion, Intimex has now become a strong and large Group, one of the leading brands in Vietnam in various fields such as processing and exporting agricultural products (coffee, pepper, rice, cashew nuts, etc.), importing frozen food, iron and steel trading, supermarket business, construction material production and trading. Among them, the company’s strength lies in the agricultural business with coffee and rice as the main export commodities.

According to the introduction on the website, Intimex Group currently owns 13 coffee bean processing factories with a total production capacity of 750,000 tons per year, and 1 soluble coffee processing factory with a capacity of 4,000 tons per year.

In 2022, the Group’s total export turnover was about 1.2 billion USD. In that year, the export volume of the company’s rice increased by 28% to reach 813,153 tons, continuing to rank first in the country in terms of rice exports in 2022 with a market share of 11.26%. In 2023, the export value of rice from Intimex Group decreased by 41.5%, and its market share dropped to 5%, ranking fifth in terms of rice exports in the country.

The export volume of coffee slightly decreased by 1% to reach 404,533 tons, with a market share of 23.5%, still maintaining the leading position in coffee exports. In addition, the soluble coffee processing factory operated steadily, with a production capacity of 3,500 tons per year, export volume reaching nearly 800 tons, and actively participating in the global coffee value chain.

The export volumes of pepper and cashew nuts reached 5,137 tons and 3,156 tons, respectively.

In terms of business results, the Group’s total revenue in 2022 reached 50,867 billion VND, an increase of 13% compared to the previous year. Of which, the revenue of the parent company reached 23,385 billion VND, accounting for 46% of the Group’s total revenue, with a pre-tax profit of 67 billion VND. The revenue of member companies reached 27,482 billion VND, accounting for 54% of the Group’s total revenue, with a pre-tax profit of 86 billion VND.

In general, the Group’s total revenue has been on an upward trend since 2012, with a significant increase in 2020 and 2021, with a 27% increase in total revenue in 2021 and a 13% increase in 2022.

In June 2023, Intimex Group distributed a 10% stock dividend. Its charter capital increased to 528.56 billion VND. Since 2014, Intimex Group has consistently paid dividends in the form of shares at a rate ranging from 5% to 14% each year.

For its business plan in 2023, Intimex Group aims for a total import-export turnover of 1.37 billion USD, an increase of 12%, and a total revenue of 59,227 billion VND, an increase of 16% compared to 2022. The Group stated that it will continue to maintain and strengthen the export of traditional agricultural products, which are the Group’s strengths, such as coffee, rice, pepper, and cashew nuts. In particular, it will focus on developing three product lines: coffee beans, rice, and soluble coffee.

Intimex plans to invest in Phase 2 of the soluble coffee processing factory, increasing the total capacity to 8,000 tons per year. The ambition of Intimex is to reach 18,000 – 20,000 tons per year by 2026, becoming a leading soluble coffee exporter in Vietnam.
