What does the Ho Chi Minh City Construction Department say about the 4,500 m3 of decayed reclaimed timber being auctioned off?

Regarding the case of 4,500 m3 of decomposed recovered wood, the Department of Construction of Ho Chi Minh City has announced its plan to expedite the auction process. Additionally, they will also finalize the construction of the management procedures and submit the auction proposal for approval at different levels.

Prior to this, the Inspectorate of Ho Chi Minh City informed that the Department of Construction had not implemented conservation measures and delayed the auctioning of recovered wood from logging and tree clearing activities, leading to many signs of decay in the wood and affecting the quality during the auction.

The amount of recovered wood in Ho Chi Minh City has reached 4,500m3 and is being collected at the Dong Thanh Nursery (Hoc Mon district).

In response to this issue at the regular press conference on the economic and social situation in Ho Chi Minh City on the afternoon of March 14, Mr. Vu Van Diep – Director of the Technical Infrastructure Management Center (under the Department of Construction of Ho Chi Minh City) stated that there are currently no specific regulations and guidelines for the handling and liquidation of materials, namely recovered wood from the felling of unsafe, damaged, diseased trees, and from the clearance of fallen trees.

However, the Infrastructure Center still proactively proposes and continues to carry out the auctioning of recovered wood to ensure the effectiveness of revenue collection for the state budget.

In the future, the Technical Infrastructure Management Center will continue to expedite the auctioning of the remaining recovered wood. Regularly organizing multiple auctions per year for newly accrued recovered wood (independent of the quantity of recovered wood to reduce the storage and preservation time).

In addition, in accordance with the instructions of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, the Inspectorate and the Department of Construction, the Infrastructure Center has completed the construction of the management and auctioning procedures for the recovered wood to be submitted for approval by the competent authorities.

At the same time, it has effectively managed the recovered wood during the implementation of the liquidation and auctioning process: arranging the wood yard neatly and conveniently, ensuring environmental hygiene, fire prevention and control, as well as guarding against termite infestation, and prioritizing safety in the storage of recovered wood.
