In March 2022, the LEGO Group was officially granted an investment license for a factory project worth $1.36 billion in VSIP 3 Industrial Park, Binh Duong province. And just 8 months later, the project started construction.

This is the largest LEGO factory and one of the largest investments of Denmark in Vietnam. The factory covers an area of 44 hectares and will create employment for 4,000 workers when operational.

Moreover, this is considered the most sustainable LEGO factory ever as it runs entirely on solar energy. Solar panels will be installed at a solar farm next to the factory and on the roofs of the buildings. The image shows the first solar panels installed on the newly completed casting building in November 2023.

The LEGO Vietnam factory consists of 5 buildings with a total area of approximately 150,000 square meters. These buildings include office buildings, energy center, production building, molding, packaging, and an automated warehouse.

Currently, there are more than 4,000 construction workers at the factory. The progress has reached over 60%. According to the plan, by August, the LEGO Vietnam factory will put the plastic molding workshop into operation, by November, the packaging workshop, and by the end of 2024, all construction items of the project will be completed.

In parallel with the construction activities, the LEGO Group has also started the process of recruiting workers. Local workers with qualifications will be trained to operate high-tech production equipment to ensure that each LEGO brick is made with a precision of 1/10 the thickness of a hair strand.

In a late February meeting, LEGO Group leaders shared their interest in the formation of affordable housing models in Binh Duong province to create the most favorable conditions for sustainable development, as well as to find suitable natural materials sources in Vietnam.

After construction, the LEGO Vietnam factory will plant 50,000 trees to create a lively landscape, a healthy working environment, and contribute to the protection of the local ecosystem and people’s health. Furthermore, the factory aims to achieve net-zero emissions.

The LEGO Vietnam factory is the first project built in the VSIP 3 Industrial Park. This is a new industrial park formed in 2022 with an area of 10 km2. The industrial park is located in Tan Uyen City and Bac Tan Uyen district, Binh Duong province.

LEGO is the world’s leading toy company, established in the town of Billund, Denmark in 1932. It currently operates 5 factories in Denmark, Hungary, Mexico, the Czech Republic, and China. After building the factory in Vietnam, the group plans to build a similar scale factory in the United States.
