Ho Dai Lai located in Ngoc Thanh commune (Phuc Yen city, Vinh Phuc province), about 40 km northwest of the city center. It is known as a large artificial lake, with a harmonious combination of lake and mountains creating a beautiful and romantic landscape.

Ngoc Thanh commune used to be a sandy area, with flooded water during the rainy season, leaving only dry and cracked terraced fields during the dry season. In 1959, Vinh Phuc Provincial Party Committee decided to build Dai Lai irrigation reservoir to supply water for agriculture and restore the economy after the war. At that time, thousands of people, mainly youth volunteers and civilians, worked every day. By 1963, the Dai Lai reservoir project was completed.

The achievements of the youth volunteers and civilians at that time created a large irrigation reservoir with a water surface area of 5.3 km2 (equivalent to Hoan Kiem district, Hanoi) and a volume of 31 million m3. Dai Lai Lake has a large drainage system, with diameters ranging from 0.75 – 1.8 m and a water channel length of up to 11 km, with a flood release dam with a width of 32 m. It can provide irrigation water for approximately 30 km2 of agricultural land every year.

After 61 years, a series of restaurants, hotels, and amusement areas have sprung up around Dai Lai Lake, turning it into a popular weekend getaway for Hanoi residents and neighboring provinces.

Among them, Flamingo Dai Lai is the largest resort in the area. When visiting here, tourists can experience activities such as swimming in the pool, playing at Play World amusement park, kayaking, mountain biking, and visiting famous check-in points.

Adjacent to Flamingo Dai Lai is a golf course located on the northern side of the lake. The course has been in operation since 2010 and meets international standards with 18 holes and expanded to 27 holes suitable for golfers of all levels.

When visiting Dai Lai Lake, the Ngoc Island (or Bird Island) in the middle of the lake cannot be missed. It is known that this island used to be a deserted island, but now it has been developed into a large-scale resort with various architectural and tourism elements. To get here, visitors must purchase two types of tickets: island sightseeing ticket and boat ticket.

The highlight of Ngoc Island is the reconstructed Linh Thong Pagoda on the site of the ancient pagoda. This place also has a playground for children, camping area, walking path, and 900 m2 outdoor swimming pool.

Although it is an artificial lake, Dai Lai Lake possesses a breathtaking natural landscape. Three sides of the lake are continuous hills and Thằn Lằn Mountain, connected by solid dykes like a surround wall keeping the water in Dai Lai Lake all year round. Surrounding the lake is the green color of over 90 km2 of protected forests.

Thanks to the large forest and water lake, the climate in Dai Lai is cool in the summer. In winter, the temperature does not drop too low due to being shielded by Tam Dao range and the Mỏ Quạ, Thằn Lằn, Cột Cờ mountains. The pristine landscape, along with the mild climate, has made Dai Lai Lake quickly become one of the most popular destinations in Vinh Phuc province.
