Flight Delays on the Rise

In February 2024, Vietnamese airlines carried out 24,711 flights, an increase of approximately 3,300 flights compared to previous months, according to information from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.

In which, Vietnam Airlines 10,383 flights, VietJet Air 9,639 flights, Bamboo Airways 2,089 flights, Pacific Airlines 1,496 flights; VASCO 506 flights and Vietravel 598 flights.

Among the flights operated by Vietnamese airlines, 7,991 flights were delayed, accounting for 32.3%, a sharp increase compared to the previous month (19.3%).

Specifically, Vietnam Airlines had 20.5% delayed flights, VietJet Air had 45.6% delayed flights, Pacific Airlines had 41% delayed flights, VASCO had 10.9% delayed flights, Bamboo Airways had 31.5% delayed flights, and Vietravel Airlines had 23.6% delayed flights out of the total flights operated by these airlines.

In February, there were 16,720 flights on time, accounting for 67.7%, a significant decrease compared to the previous month (80.7%).

Thus, in February, the rate of delayed flights increased sharply. This month is the peak Lunar New Year month, with increased air travel to meet the high demand for passenger travel, and also the month with foggy weather and unfavorable conditions in the Northern region, affecting many flights.

According to the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam, the two main causes of delayed take-offs in February 2024 were late aircraft (19.7%) and airlines (8.5%).

The remaining reasons mentioned by aviation authorities include weather conditions, management, flight operations, airport facilities and services, and other reasons.

Also in February, there were 43 canceled flights, accounting for 0.2%. The main reasons for airlines to cancel flights in February are operational and commercial reasons. The remaining reasons are technical issues, weather conditions, and other reasons.
