The excitement for Xiaomi’s first electric car model – SU7 – is growing as the launch date approaches. This event is definitely going to attract a lot of attention in the rapidly developing electric car market. To celebrate this important milestone, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun recently revealed a glimpse of the company’s massive electric car production plant on Weibo, providing a sneak peek at the SU7 production center.

According to Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s board of directors chose to hold their board meeting at the electric car factory for a tour and test drive of the SU7 model.

Previously, satellite images of Xiaomi’s factory captured by the Jilin-1 satellite caught the community’s attention. As reported, the factory started construction in April 2022 and has now entered the phase of producing complete cars. The number of cars parked in the parking lot has also significantly increased in the past 10 days.

According to previous information from Chinese media, the factory is being built in two phases. Phase 1, with an area of nearly 720,000 square meters, started construction in April 2022 and was completed in June 2023. Phase 2 is expected to start construction in 2024 and be completed in 2025. Completed items include factories 1, 2, 3, 4 and the test building, serving processes such as stamping, welding, painting, assembly, and battery production. These factories passed the acceptance test on June 12.

The launch of the supercar factory marks a significant milestone in Xiaomi’s electric car development journey. With localized production, Xiaomi can have more control over quality, production progress, and costs, while also creating favorable conditions for bringing high-quality electric car models to the market at competitive prices.

Customers eager to see more of the Xiaomi SU7 won’t have to wait long. Starting from March 25, some stores in 29 Chinese cities will display the exterior of the car. This allows potential buyers to experience the design and size of the SU7 firsthand before the official launch. However, test drives will not take place until March 28, coinciding with the car’s debut.

Although Xiaomi is still keeping official price information under wraps, local media previously made some predictions. Estimates indicate that the starting price of the SU7 will range from 250,000 CNY to 370,000 CNY (around 860 million VND – 1.27 billion VND). This price range enables the SU7 to directly compete with Tesla’s popular Model 3, while also having the advantage of a more spacious size.

One thing for sure is that the competition in the Chinese electric car market is going to be more interesting than ever.
