Earlier this year, the iconic sedan model of Mazda, the Mazda 6, was announced to officially stop selling in the Japanese market from April. This decision comes after similar withdrawals in North America in 2021 and the UK last year.
Customers can still pre-order the remaining inventory of this product before it is completely phased out. Meanwhile, Mazda is believed to be accelerating the launch of new products to replace the Mazda 6.
According to Autohome , Mazda has registered copyrights for 2 new vehicle names in China, EZ-6 and EZ-60. They are classified as a 4-door sedan and an SUV, respectively. Among them, Mazda EZ-6 will be the replacement for the Mazda 6 and is expected to be unveiled first at the Beijing Motor Show 2024 in April.
Chinese media revealed that this might be the car produced by the joint venture between Mazda and Changan established in 2023. At that time, the joint venture confirmed that it would launch 6 models in 2024, including 2 new convertible sedan models named J90A and J90A-REEV.
Based on the EV (electric vehicle) suffix in the name, analysts predict that Mazda’s new model might have both pure electric and hybrid versions. It is expected to use Changan’s EPA1 platform. This platform supports hybrid and electric drivetrains, instead of Mazda’s upcoming expandable EV SkyActiv architecture.
As for the EZ-60 SUV, the vehicle was previously introduced by Changan Mazda with the code name J90K and will be launched in 2025. Similar to the EZ-6 or J90A, the new SUV model will also be offered in both regular and pure electric versions.
In addition, Changan Mazda also revealed plans to launch two more products in 2026. However, the company currently refers to them as SUV NEV and CAR NEV without any specific descriptions.
