Becoming a city 10 years after its establishment
Bến Cát district was established in 2013 according to Resolution No. 136 dated December 29, 2013 of the Government. Located in the center of Bình Dương province, it is 20km away from the center of Thu Dau Mot town and about 50km away from Ho Chi Minh City. It is crossed by the Saigon River and Thi Tinh River. It is about 45km from Tan Son Nhat Airport, about 35km from Tan Cang Port, and about 40km from Song Than Station.
Recently, at the National Assembly, under the chairmanship of the Chairman of the National Assembly Vương Đình Huệ, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly continued to consider opinions on 2 contents and concluded the 31st Session. One of the important contents unanimously agreed by the Standing Committee of the National Assembly is the establishment of An Dien Ward, An Tay Ward of Bến Cát town, and the establishment of Bến Cát city in Bình Dương province.
Specifically, regarding the plan to establish 2 wards in Bến Cát town and Bến Cát city, Minister of Home Affairs Phạm Thị Thanh Trà said that Bình Dương province proposed to establish 2 wards: An Dien and An Tay in Bến Cát town based on the natural area and population scale of An Dien and An Tay communes. At the same time, it was proposed to establish Bến Cát city in Bình Dương province based on the natural area and population scale of Bến Cát town.
Bến Cát town is one of the 5 important urban areas in Bình Dương province, it is the dynamic urban area in the North of Ho Chi Minh City and is a high-tech industrial and clean industry development area, a research and technology transfer center. The urban development orientation of Bến Cát is to become a center of industrial, service, and transportation urban area by 2040. Therefore, Bình Dương province and Bến Cát town have focused their resources on investing in economic, social development, and urban infrastructure.
Accordingly, Bến Cát city will be established on the basis of the entire natural area of 234.35 km2 and a population scale of 364,578 people of Bến Cát town in Bình Dương province.
After establishing An Dien Ward, An Tay Ward, and Bến Cát city, Bình Dương province, Bến Cát city will have 8 administrative units, including 7 wards: An Dien, An Tay, Chanh Phu Hoa, Hoa Loi, My Phuoc, Tan Dinh, Thoi Hoa and Phu An Commune.
Bình Dương province has 9 administrative units at the district level, including 4 districts, and 5 cities; 91 administrative units at the commune level, including 39 communes, 47 wards, and 5 towns.
How does the economy of Bến Cát develop?
In terms of the economy, the town has 8 industrial zones that have been systematically planned and created jobs for about 180,000 workers. Among them are large industrial zones such as My Phuoc 3 (nearly 700 hectares), My Phuoc 2 (800 hectares), My Phuoc 1 (nearly 500 hectares), etc. The average income level reaches VND 140 million/person/year.
The economic growth rate has always been high, most of the main indicators have achieved and exceeded the targets for the entire term. The town has completed the program of building new rural areas and developing urban areas; the economic structure continues to shift in the right direction: Industrial development and stable growth, services account for an increasingly high proportion in the economic structure; agriculture is shifting towards developing urban agriculture and high-tech agriculture associated with building new rural areas.
Specifically, in the period of 2015-2020, the average annual economic growth rate based on the comparison price of the town reached 11.86%, according to the current price, it reached 23.5%. By 2023, the economic growth rate of Bến Cát town is estimated at 12.1% (the entire province is estimated at 6%); the economic structure shifts in the right direction with an industrial proportion of 70.3%, a trade and service proportion of 29.5 %, and an agricultural proportion of 0.2%; total production value reached over 285,018 billion VND, an increase of 21.1% compared to the same period.
Specifically, the industrial production value reached over 200,000 billion VND, an increase of 17.5% compared to the same period and attracted 671 investment projects, bringing the total number of projects in the area to 6,441 projects. Among them, there are 37 foreign-invested projects (FDI) with total capital of nearly USD 80 million. The retail sales of goods and services reached nearly 84,000 billion VND, an increase of 30.5% compared to the same period.
In terms of state budget revenue and expenditure, by 2023, the total state budget revenue in the area by November 23, 2023 reached nearly 4,014 billion VND, reaching 93% of the province’s plan and the resolution of the District People’s Council increased by 64% compared to the same period. The total local budget revenue reached nearly 1,115 billion VND, achieving 112% of the province’s plan and the resolution of the District People’s Council.
Under Decision No. 1573/QD-UBND dated July 1, 2022 of the People’s Committee of Bình Dương province on approving the overall adjustment of the general development plan of Bến Cát town until 2040, it is determined that Bến Cát is an industrial, service, and agricultural city, an important transportation hub of the province and the key economic zone in the South. Therefore, the establishment of Bến Cát city in Bình Dương province is of great significance in terms of politics, economic – social development and local defense – security.
