On March 20, in Hanoi, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan had a working session with Novatek Group to discuss issues related to Novatek’s participation in projects on the use of liquefied natural gas in Vietnam.
According to Ms. E.N.Golm, Business Development Director of Novatek, the group is currently implementing the Integrated Power Plant Construction Project with a capacity of 1.5 GW, jointly conducted by the consortium of Zarubezhneft, Total, Siemens and Novatek in Ca Na, Ninh Thuan.
Previously, on April 23, 2020, the Prime Minister of Vietnam issued document number 479/TTG-CN regarding the addition of LNG Ca Na Power Center to the National Power Development Plan and assigned the People’s Committee of Ninh Thuan province to take responsibility for chairing and coordinating with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam Electricity Corporation (EVN) and related agencies to organize bidding for selecting investors to implement LNG power plant projects in the LNG Power Centers.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has issued document number 4048/BCT-ĐL on June 5, 2020, sending it to the People’s Committee of Ninh Thuan province regarding guidance on some contents related to the LNG Ca Na Power Center (investing in LNG port warehouse construction; business model and pricing mechanism for LNG, re-gasified gas for power plants; total land area and common infrastructure investment mechanism; electricity price calculation; connection plan; investor selection…).
The People’s Committee of Ninh Thuan province has decided to recognize the Consortium as an investor that meets the preliminary requirements for capacity and experience in implementing Phase 1 of the LNG Ca Na Power Center project.
Ms. E.N.Golm said that Novatek is currently very interested in the LNG sector in Vietnam, not only participating in the Ca Na project with partners Zarubezhneft, Total, Siemens, but also being involved in accessing Vietnam’s developing natural gas market.
During the working session, the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Trade also provided additional information and notes to the investors when implementing projects on the use of liquefied natural gas and hoped that Novatek would implement the Integrated Power Plant Project as soon as possible.
