The Van Phuc bridge project, built on the Red River, passing through Phuc Tho district, has been invested and constructed with the aim of completing the planned transportation system, serving the needs of transporting goods, traveling of people, creating a premise to promote socio-economic development in the area of Hanoi, Vinh Phuc, and neighboring provinces in the capital region and the key economic region of the North.

The starting point of the project is at the intersection of National Highway 32, belonging to Phung Thuong commune, Phuc Tho district; the endpoint is at the boundary of Hanoi and Vinh Phuc province. In addition, the project also includes a 7.7 km long connecting road to National Highway 32.
The width of the main bridge over the river, the overpass over the Van Coc lake, and the approach bridge on the Hanoi side is 20.5 m, with a scale of 4 motorized lanes and 2 rudimentary lanes; the connecting road from National Highway 32 to the overpass over Van Coc lake is 32 m wide, with a scale of 6 motorized lanes and 2 rudimentary lanes.
The total investment of the project is more than 3,400 billion VND, with an implementation period of 2022-2027. The Project Management Board for the investment and construction of transport works in Hanoi is assigned as the investor, preparing steps including design and construction, and completing the project documents to start the project according to plan.
The Thuong Cat bridge and the two-way road at the ends of the bridge are located on Ring Road 3.5, connecting Bac Tu Liem district with Dong Anh district. The project has a total investment of over 8,300 billion VND.
According to the architectural plan that has just won the first prize, Thuong Cat bridge has a cross-sectional width of 37.4m, organized into 6 motorized lanes and 2 mixed lanes. The project’s construction progress will be from now until 2025.

To implement the project, the Vice Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee, Duong Duc Tuan, has just requested the PMU for Transport Projects in Hanoi (the investor), the Department of Planning and Investment to carry out the next steps after selecting the architectural plan for Thuong Cat bridge.
According to Mr. Tuan, the project to invest in the construction of Thuong Cat bridge on Ring Road 3.5 is very important. “The investment in building Thuong Cat bridge ensures consistency, continuity, and connectivity of the entire Ring Road 3.5 from the South to the North of the Red River; opening up more connecting roads in the West and Southwest of the capital between districts and towns on the North and South of the Red River…”, Mr. Tuan said.
Regarding the project’s commencement date, Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee Duong Duc Tuan requested the PMU for Transport Projects in Hanoi, along with related units, to speed up the investment preparation process and start the project on the occasion of October 10, 2024.
