Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI) is prepping to launch an electric scooter in FY2025. According to Indian media outlets, it is most likely the Honda Activa Electric that was earlier supposed to be launched in early 2024 but was later deferred due to certain factors.

Honda Activa is currently the highest-selling scooter in India by a huge margin and has held the position for well over a decade. Launching an electric version of the same could help in familiarity among customers. HMSI has reportedly planned to expand its production capacity to incorporate new assembly lines for the Activa Electric.

Honda Activa

Not much is currently known about the Activa Electric but it is being designed as an everyday commuter-focused electric scooter and the design and features will be optimized accordingly.

The Activa Electric features an LED headlamp flanked by LED DRLs upfront, while a 7-inch digital display is present through which the rider can access information related to the vehicle. Other readouts on the screen include trip meter, odometer, distance to empty, modes, time, battery usage, charging, and more.

While most new electric two-wheelers in the market are competing on the basis of range, top speed, performance figures, etc., the Activa Electric takes a different approach. The Honda electric scooter instead focuses more on reliability. It will have a top speed of 50 km/h, which is considerably lower than the current average of 80-100 km/h offered by other manufacturers.

Honda will also introduce an easy-swappable battery system with the Activa Electric so that the battery can be easily swapped at a charging station or can be taken home for charging.

Furthermore, the Activa Electric is also expected to be priced affordably so as to cater to the average income group. It is likely to be priced around Rs 100,000 (approx. Rs 30 lakh).
