Outbound Tours with Domestic Return Fares
According to a survey on April 22, flight fares are becoming tense in domestic flight segments during the peak holiday period from April 27 to May 1. Round-trip tickets from Hanoi to Phu Quoc on April 27 and returning on May 1 from Vietjet Air cost nearly 8 million VND, while Vietnam Airlines is over 9 million VND.
The Hanoi – Nha Trang flight segment with the same schedule has a fare of over 3 million VND for the outbound flight and 3.7 million for the return flight. Specifically, on April 27, Vietjet Air, Vietnam Airlines, and Bamboo Airway have the cheapest tickets at 2.2 million VND/ticket, 3.7 million VND, and 3.6 million VND, respectively. From Nha Trang – Hanoi on May 1, the fares of Vietjet and Bamboo Airways are in the range of 2.8 – 3.7 million VND. In addition, round-trip tickets to Con Dao and Quy Nhon from Hanoi during the holiday period fluctuate between 7-9 million VND.
With the current tense fare situation, many tourists share that they will travel to countries in the Southeast Asian region to both enjoy the feeling of air travel and explore new destinations while still ensuring financial capability.
Minh Anh – 25 years old, living in Hoang Mai district – shared: “During this holiday season, checking round-trip airfares to Da Lat is currently at 6.5 million VND. For me, my parents, and my younger brother, the travel costs alone would amount to over 25 million VND, excluding food and beverage expenses. Therefore, the family has shifted to a 5-day, 4-night tour to Thailand, visiting the famous Pattaya beach for only over 7 million VND/person, including airfare and accommodation in 4-5 star hotels. I find that traveling abroad can now save about 5 million VND compared to traveling domestically because airfares are cheaper”.
Meanwhile, Khang – 30 years old, living in Dong Da district – shared that his relative traveled to Phu Quoc Island in the low season in March, and the airfare was also at 7 million VND/person. So it is hard to expect to find cheap tickets during the holiday season. Therefore, his couple decided to choose a tour to Singapore – Malaysia for over 10 million VND/person.
“Traveling domestically during the holiday season is often crowded and overloaded. So I think choosing to travel abroad is also a way to avoid the crowds”, Khang commented.
Move Back 1-2 Days to Get Cheap Tickets
If traveling during peak times, airfares are extremely expensive. Therefore, some tourists have come up with the idea of traveling on different days to save costs.
After checking the airfares to Phu Quoc on May 29, Ms. Hong in Cau Giay (Hanoi) said that the one-way airfare is only 1.7 million VND, almost 2 million VND cheaper than if departing on May 27.
“On the return flight, while the fare on May 1 is over 3.5 million VND, I choose May 3, and the price is only 2.3 million VND. Since the nature of my work can mostly be done remotely, my husband and I will travel from April 29 to May 3 to enjoy the holiday season”.
Similar to Ms. Hong, Mr. Vu – working at a media company in Hoan Kiem district – shared that he had requested an early leave of one day to take the Hanoi – Nha Trang flight segment on April 26 with a one-way ticket priced at over 2 million VND, while the fare for this segment the next day is up to over 3.6 million VND.
According to data from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam , in the period before and after the holiday by 1 day, the booking rate has not increased much or had any special fluctuations, mostly fluctuating at only 30-50%. Passengers still have many options to travel by plane at reasonable prices on this day.
