Jetour, a sub-brand of Chinese automaker Chery, has officially unveiled its rugged-looking Shanhai T2 off-road SUV, which packs a potent powertrain and costs between CNY 179,900 and 209,900 (USD 26,000 to 30,000).

The Shanhai T2 is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of the Jetour Traveller. All three variants launched are all-wheel drive, with two-wheel drive models to be introduced in the second half of this year.

In terms of design, the Shanhai T2 resembles its Jetour Traveller sibling with its boxy shape, beefy bumpers, squarish headlights, and a polygonal spare tire cover at the rear.

The off-road appearance is further enhanced by the roof-mounted luggage rack and the flared wheel arches. The Jetour Shanhai T2 measures 4785/2006/1875 mm and has a wheelbase of 2800 mm, dimensions comparable to the iconic Land Rover Defender 110 (4,758 mm L x 1,996 mm W x 1,967 mm H). The wheels are either 19 or 20 inches in diameter. The cargo space offers 580 liters of storage.

Inside, the vehicle features a flat-bottom four-spoke steering wheel, a 10.25-inch LCD instrument cluster, and a 15.6-inch central infotainment screen. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip provides the car with intelligent features and assisted driving functions.

Other standard amenities in the Shanhai T2 include a power tailgate, keyless entry for the driver’s seat, and acoustic glass for the front windows. The driver’s seat gets eight-way power adjustment, while the front passenger seat offers six-way power adjustment.

Additional notable features in the cabin include a 50W wireless charger for smartphones, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear-seat vents, and six USB ports. The sound system boasts eight speakers, and a large panoramic sunroof is also present.

All Jetour Shanhai T2 models feature a 1.5T PHEV system that consists of a fifth-generation ACTECO 1.5TGDI hybrid engine and two electric motors mated to a 3-speed DHT gearbox. The combined system output is 381 horsepower, and the combined peak torque is 610 Nm. The acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 7.5 seconds, while the top speed is 197 km/h.

Two battery capacities are available for each variant, with mid-to-low-end models equipped with a 26.7 kWh LFP battery pack from CALB-Tech, providing a pure electric CLTC range of 129 km. Higher-spec models get a 43.24 kWh LFP battery from CATL, offering a pure electric CLTC range of 208 km. The total range of the system reaches 1,300 km.

Using a fast charger, the Shanhai T2 takes 30 minutes to replenish its battery from 30% to 80%. When using slow AC charging, it takes 4 hours to charge from 30% to 80%. The T2 can provide external power of up to 6.6 kW, which can be useful for activities like camping or during power outages.

Recently, Geleximco Group and the Omoda & Jaecoo auto brand (owned by Chery Group, China) signed a joint venture agreement in Hanoi. The two parties will build a factory in Vietnam with a capacity of 200,000 vehicles per year to produce models under the Omoda & Jaecoo brands. The total investment for this factory is USD 800 million (over VND 19,900 billion).

Mr. Vu Van Tien, Chairman of Geleximco, stated that the Geleximco – Omoda & Jaecoo joint venture will not only serve the domestic market but also aims to expand internationally, with potential destinations including the US and Europe.
