Hyundai Santa Fe’s Low-Cost Rival Breaks Cover: Priced Under $22k, Delivers 806-Mile Combined Range

Neta Auto, a subsidiary of China’s Hozon Auto Group, has officially launched the Neta L – its latest sports utility vehicle model in the Chinese market.

Currently, only the extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants of the car have been announced. The manufacturer will launch pure electric (BEV) variants in the near future.

The Neta L EREV comes in four variants, with starting prices of RMB 129,900 (USD 18,000), RMB 136,900, RMB 149,900, and RMB 159,900 respectively. This converts to prices ranging from 458 million VND, and this version will officially go on sale in August.

Based on Neta’s Shanhai platform, the Neta L is a 5-seater mid-size SUV with a length, width, and height of 4,770 mm, 1,900 mm and 1,660 mm respectively, and a wheelbase of 2,810 mm, similar to the dimensions of the Hyundai Santafe, a popular SUV in the Vietnamese market.

In terms of the range extender, the Neta L EREV is equipped with a 1.5L 4-cylinder engine. In addition, the car has a battery pack with a capacity of up to 40.27 kWh, providing a pure electric range of up to 310 km under CLTC conditions. The Neta L can be charged from 30% to 80% in less than 19 minutes with a maximum charging factor of 2.6 C. Neta also claims that this will be the fastest charging EREV on the market today. Thus, when fully fueled and charged, the Neta L has a combined CLTC operating range of up to 1,300 km.

In terms of the interior, the car is equipped with two large 15.6-inch screens. Throughout the vehicle, the Neta L is equipped with 5 millimeter-wave radars, a front-facing camera, 4 surround-view cameras (360), 12 ultrasonic radars, and a Driver Monitoring System camera, performing Neta’s advanced driver assistance functions including parking assist, adaptive cruise control, and lane center assist.

Consumers can choose from 5 exterior colors including Magic Night Black, Comet White, Particle Blue, Juechen Silver, and Comet White & Magic Night Black. Neta also claims that the car’s entire lighting system covers 3.37 square meters.

According to CarNewsChina, Neta delivered 127,496 vehicles in 2023, down 16.16% year-on-year.

In the first quarter of 2024, the company sold 24,434 vehicles, down 6.65% year-on-year. In 2024, NETA plans to expand its global business network with the aim of covering 60 countries, establishing 300 international sales and service outlets.
