Mr. Binh shared a story about a recent meeting with ambassadors from the United States, Japan, and Singapore.

FPT Chairman Truong Gia Binh

“One of the ambassadors told me: You don’t know how big of an opportunity your country has. But you only have 18 months. They didn’t explain to me why” – quoted from Mr. Binh’s sharing.

There are two issues: One is what is the opportunity? And two is what is the deadline? Mr. Binh said that the opportunity is semiconductors, the national industry. But Vietnam will only have 18 months because no country will wait for us.

“The world will have to choose another way if we don’t catch up. At all costs, the world cannot be short of chips” – he continued sharing.

“How much did the world suffer during COVID? America’s leading automaker produced but couldn’t sell. The Semiconductor Industry Association of America visited countries to promote, make lists, build, and now spend a lot of money to be able to produce, to not be afraid of supply chain disruptions. The Japanese government and other countries did the same.

“I strongly support the Prime Minister’s approach, only that way can we make it in time. We have to calculate 18 months by approaching and making breakthroughs. I agree with the approach of Minister Nguyen Chi Dung that we see the problem very big, not doing small things”.

Mr. Binh quoted Mr. Jensen Huang – CEO NVIDIA when he visited Vietnam: Vietnam is the only country that can participate in all stages of the semiconductor supply chain. Therefore, he thinks that “a breakthrough is important”. We have to make a breakthrough in the regime. Within 18 months, we have to show: Vietnam not only has opportunities but also commits to that opportunity.

“Commitment is like what Minister Nguyen Manh Hung said: Vietnam must be a human resources hub. So how do we become a human resources hub right away? The government and 7 universities in Taiwan came to meet with the National University, University of Science, University of Technology and FPT to recruit people. The countries are willing to sponsor tuition fees, airfares, living expenses… everything. And we have to meet as many human resources as possible for them. Because they said: short of 1 million people. We need to prove that Vietnam has students who are willing to study.
