185 Trees to Be Relocated and Felled for Metro Line No. 1 Connection Project

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has issued a permit to the city’s Public Transport Management Center to cut down and relocate trees for the construction of an access and connection project for bus routes to stations on Metro Line No. 1 (Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien). The project will involve cutting down 37 trees and relocating 148 trees.

The trees to be cut down and relocated are located in the green areas along Vo Nguyen Giap Street near Rach Da Do Canal, Vo Nguyen Giap Street near the BOO area, Cat Lai intersection, and along the service road on the right side of Vo Nguyen Giap Street.

Previously, in order to build Metro Line No. 2 (Ben Thanh – Tham Luong), the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board (MAUR) notified relevant units about the construction of a contract package to relocate trees for the construction of the metro line.

According to MAUR, a total of 453 existing trees will be affected by the Metro Line No. 2 project. Of these, 449 trees are managed by the Ho Chi Minh City Technical Infrastructure Management Center, and the remaining 4 trees are managed by District 10.

The 453 trees affected include Lagerstroemia, Banyan, Da, Dau, Giat, Me Chua, Sao Den, So Khi, Me Tay, and Lim Set.

MAUR said that the underground stations of Metro Line No. 2 will be built in densely populated residential areas. Therefore, within the station area and adjacent to the station boundary, there are many existing underground and above-ground infrastructure works, including the green tree system.
