Honda has launched the Honda WR-V compact SUV (also known as the Elevate in the Indian market) for the Japanese market in March 2024. This is also the first Honda model produced in India to be exported to the home market.

It is worth noting that, just 1 month after its launch in Japan, the Honda WR-V has quickly proven its unexpected appeal when it secured 13,000 orders in just 1 month, a figure that is 4 times higher than the modest expectation of 3,000 units set by Honda.

Meanwhile, in the Indian market, this model, known as the SUV version of the Honda City, has also recorded 20,000 pre-orders just within 100 days since its launch. Market sentiment suggests that the Honda WR-V will continue to be a popular choice in Japan. At the same time, Honda may also introduce this SUV to other international markets.

In fact, the Honda WR-V is the Honda Elevate model developed on the Honda City platform and launched in the Indian market last year.

As for the size, Honda’s SUV has dimensions of 4,325 mm in length x 1,790 mm in width x 1,650 mm in height, with a ground clearance of 195 mm.

The difference of WR-V in the Japanese market is the black interior, in contrast to the brown and black interior in the Indian market. In addition, the leather on the dashboard no longer appears.

WR-V has many modern features such as a new touchscreen infotainment system with physical buttons on the right side. Along with that is Honda Sensing with all advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), 6 airbags, automatic climate control, etc. However, Honda WR-V in Japan also misses out on features like electric sunroof and wireless phone charging that the Indian version has.

Providing power to the car is a 1.5L naturally aspirated gasoline engine with a maximum capacity of 119 horsepower and a maximum torque of 145 Nm. This engine will be paired with a standard CVT automatic transmission and no manual transmission option.

In Japan, Honda WR-V has 3 versions including X, Z and Z+ with prices ranging from 2,098,800 – 2,489,300 Yen, equivalent to about 326 – 387 million VND. This is a price that is even cheaper than A-segment cars such as Kia Morning or Hyundai Grand i10.
