On April 28, the leader of Hoan Kiem District People’s Committee (Hanoi) said that the unit had directed to verify the information that a street vendor “ripped off” foreign tourists 500,000 VND for 3 pineapples.

Previously, social media shared a video of a heated argument between a foreign female tourist and a street vendor. According to the video, the female tourist angrily grabbed a pineapple and the vendor’s goods and threw them on the ground.

Many people came to prevent and were outraged when they learned that the street vendor “ripped off” up to 500,000 VND for 3 pineapples. They asked the street vendor to refund the tourist.

In response to the reaction of the people around, the street vendor reluctantly withdrew 500,000 VND to pay the female tourist and then left on her motorbike.

The incident attracted attention from many people, causing a stir in the area of Hang Buom and Hang Duong.

In the area of Hoan Kiem Lake and the Old Quarter, there is still a common situation of street vendors ripping off tourists, causing outrage. On March 24, a street vendor also demanded 50,000 VND/bag of fried cakes, including 4 pieces, at Hoan Kiem Lake.

After receiving the information, the Hoan Kiem District People’s Committee assigned Ly Thai To Ward Police to investigate the incident.  The ward police fined the vendor 150,000 VND for street vending and required a commitment not to sell on the street illegally.
