Kia Sorento Hybrid Price Adjustment Up to $12,000
Kia Vietnam has revised the prices of its Sorento hybrid models following the price adjustment for the gasoline-powered Sorento earlier in April 2024. The price reductions range from $6,000 to $12,000, effective from April 17th, 2024.
Model | Old Price | Adjusted Price | Difference |
---|---|---|---|
Sorento Hybrid 1.6L Premium |
$46,000 | $41,200 | -$4,800 |
Sorento Hybrid 1.6L Signature |
$49,900 | $45,200 | -$4,800 |
Sorento Plug-in Hybrid 1.6L Premium |
$58,300 | $56,000 | -$2,400 |
Sorento Plug-in Hybrid 1.6L Signature |
$63,000 | $59,900 | -$3,100 |
The Kia Sorento hybrid (HEV) received the most significant price cut of $4,800 for both the 1.6L Premium and 1.6L Signature variants. After the price adjustment, the prices of the two models stand at $41,200 and $45,200, respectively.
The two Sorento plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants saw smaller reductions. The 1.6L Signature PHEV was reduced by $3,100 to $59,900, while the 1.6L Premium PHEV dropped by $2,400 to $56,000.
With a starting price of $41,200, the Kia Sorento hybrid retains its position as the most affordable D-segment hybrid SUV. It is even less expensive than the Honda CR-V hybrid ($49,900), a model in the C-segment SUV category.
Rationale for Sorento Hybrid Price Adjustment
The adjustment to the Kia Sorento hybrid’s pricing came as no surprise given the low sales of the model in the recent past. In March 2024, the Sorento HEV and PHEV models sold only seven units combined. For the first three months of 2024, the two HEV and PHEV variants of the Kia Sorento managed to sell just 10 units.
Sales of the Kia Sorento with gasoline engines weren’t much better. In March, the D-segment SUV sold only 42 units. The cumulative sales for the first three months of the year reached 134 units.
For the first quarter of 2024, the Sorento’s overall sales reached 144 units, placing it second to last in the segment, ahead of only the Isuzu mu-X (35 units).
Moreover, the Sorento hybrid’s rival, the Hyundai Santa Fe hybrid, is currently being offered with a $4,000 discount in April 2024. As a result, the price of the model has dropped to $50,800.
Features of the Kia Sorento HEV and PHEV
The primary difference between the hybrid variants and the gasoline and diesel models lies in their powertrain. The two hybrid variants share a hybrid engine that combines a 1.6L turbocharged gasoline engine (178 horsepower, 265 Nm of torque) with an electric motor. The electric motor in the HEV version has an output of 60 horsepower and 264 Nm of torque, while the PHEV version’s motor produces 90 horsepower and 304 Nm of torque. Only the HEV Premium variant uses front-wheel drive, while all others are AWD.
According to Kia Vietnam, the Sorento PHEV can travel approximately 71 km on electric power alone.
The PHEV model has a larger battery pack, resulting in a reduced fuel tank capacity of 47 liters compared to the 67 liters in the HEV version. The PHEV is also 140 kg heavier than the HEV.
