The smallest province in Vietnam, Bac Ninh, encompasses only 822.7 square kilometers and is situated to the northeast of the capital city of Hanoi in the Red River Delta region. In 1997, Bac Ninh province was re-established after being split from the former Ha Bac province.
Bac Ninh has undergone remarkable growth over the course of 27 years. In 2023, the province of Bac Ninh had a total import-export turnover of approximately 73.6 billion USD, with a 7 billion USD trade surplus. In particular, exports reached 40.3 billion USD, positioning the province first in the Red River Delta region and second in the nation; imports reached 33.3 billion USD, placing the province second in the Red River Delta region and third overall in the country.
According to the Planning of Bac Ninh Province for the 2021-2030 period and the vision for 2050, the objective for development by 2030 is for Bac Ninh to become a city directly under the central government.
