At the 2024 Beijing Motor Show, Chinese carmaker Chery officially debuted the Jetour Shanhai L7. It’s a mid-size hybrid SUV available in both 5 and 7-seat configurations, with plenty of modern amenities.
Jetour, originally a sub-brand of Chery, has since become an independent marque. The Shanhai line is the brand’s first foray into the new energy vehicle market. Shanhai translates to “sea and mountain” in Chinese, and as such, the brand will equip its models with exciting off-road capabilities, ready to conquer both rugged mountain roads and forest trails.
The Jetour Shanhai L7 impresses with a closed-off front fascia that resembles an all-electric model. The slim LED daytime running lights, prominent headlights positioned on either side of the bumper, and black-trimmed lower bumper with chrome accents are all eye-catching features.
There are slight dimensional differences between the 5-seat and 7-seat versions. The 5-seater measures 4,760 mm in length, while the 7-seater is 4,785 mm long. These differences result in wheelbases of 2,720 mm and 2,745 mm, respectively. Both versions share identical widths and heights of 1,900 mm and 1,720 mm.
The rear end features LED taillights that span the width of the vehicle. Below the light cluster is the Jetour lettering with C-DM badging.
Inside, the L7 on display showcased a white and blue interior. The cabin is modern, with a large dual-screen setup consisting of a digital instrument cluster and infotainment display seamlessly connected. The car also features a panoramic sunroof that can be opened. As Chinese consumers favor touch controls, the brand has minimized the use of physical buttons.
C-DM stands for Chery’s Kunpeng plug-in hybrid system. The car utilizes a 1.5T four-cylinder engine producing 156 horsepower, along with an electric motor boasting a maximum power output of 199 kW and 220 Nm of peak torque. The WLTC-rated pure electric range is 85 km, while the CLTC range is 110 km. The vehicle has a top speed of 180 km/h.
The combined fuel consumption (WLTC) is 1.38 liters per 100 km, and the mixed fuel consumption is 5.2 liters per 100 km.
In China, the car is available in three variants, priced at 144,900 NDT, 149,900 NDT, and 158,900 NDT, respectively. At the current exchange rates, these prices translate to approximately USD 21,800, USD 22,700, and USD 24,100.
Chery, a major Chinese automaker, has plans to distribute and manufacture vehicles in the Vietnamese market. The company recently signed a cooperation agreement to build a factory in Vietnam, with a value of nearly 20,000 billion VND (USD 869 million).
Unlike its previous entry into Vietnam over a decade ago, the company will sell vehicles under two sub-brands, Omoda and Jaecoo, rather than the Chery brand. Models expected to be introduced in Vietnam include the Omoda 5, S5, S5 GT, and Jaecoo 7. The brand aims to achieve total sales of 5,000 units in its first year of operation for the Jaecoo 7, Omoda 5, and another undisclosed model.
