Noticing that the situation was becoming increasingly heated, many local residents ran over to try to calm down the female tourist and find out what had happened. Upon learning that the street vendor had “ripped off” the customer by charging her 500,000 VND for 3 pineapples, they all expressed their outrage: “Give the woman her money back, you’re just trying to scam her.”

However, the vendor tried to defend herself, claiming that she had sold the pineapples for 50,000 VND each. The customer had bought 3 pineapples, paid with a 500,000 VND note, and the vendor hadn’t had time to give her the change.

Finally, the vendor took out the 500,000 VND note to give back to the tourist and then left on her motorbike.

After receiving the information shared on social media, the leader of the Hoan Kiem District People’s Committee in Hanoi said that the unit had instructed an investigation into the information that a street vendor had “ripped off” a foreign tourist by charging her 500,000 VND for 3 pineapples.
