The Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs has announced a 5-day holiday for civil servants and employees on the occasion of April 30 and May 1. For the business sector, the Ministry encourages employers to apply the holiday time for employees as prescribed for the public sector.
Although not required to follow the general holiday schedule, it is noted that many businesses have plans to take holidays like the government or arrange holiday schedules and make up for work accordingly to ensure the wishes of employees are met.
At Son Non Fashion Company Limited (District 3, Ho Chi Minh City), in order for workers to have a continuous 4-day holiday, from Sunday, April 28 to Wednesday, May 1 (because the company works on Saturdays), the company’s board of directors arranged for workers to work overtime 1 week before.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Ty, CEO of Son Non Fashion Company Limited, said that overtime can generate additional income and enable a long holiday; therefore, employees agreed with the company’s plan.
Ms. Cao Thi Lai, a worker at Son Non Fashion Company Limited, said that after finishing work on Saturday afternoon (April 27), she and her husband and daughter returned to their hometown in Ben Tre that night. “This year, the roads are clear, so after more than 2 hours of traveling, my family arrived home. Going home for the holidays is the option many of my colleagues choose because it is inexpensive and avoids the peak of hot and sunny days in Ho Chi Minh City”- Ms. Lai shared.
Samsung Electronics HCMC Ce Complex Co., Ltd. (High-Tech Park, Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City) also allows employees to take 4 consecutive days off.
Ms. Kieu Ngoc Hoa, the company’s HR Director, said that when looking at the employee’s annual leave schedule, the company planned for employees to take the second day off (April 29) to have 4 consecutive days off starting from the beginning of the year.
“This holiday is deducted from the annual leave, so employees do not have to make up for it later. The plan for a long holiday will be announced by the company in advance so that all employees can plan for the long holiday, such as going home, traveling, or visiting friends and relatives…” – said Ms. Hoa.
Since her mother has just visited Ho Chi Minh City, Ms. Le Thi Dieu Hang, an employee of Samsung Electronics HCMC Ce Complex Co., Ltd., will not return to Phu Yen to visit her parents but will stay in Ho Chi Minh City. Ms. Hang plans to go to a coffee shop, walk around, and explore the city with her close friends. “This is an opportunity to relax and recharge for better work performance” – said Ms. Hang.
