During the 5-day holiday from April 30 to May 1, Vietnamese tourism estimated to serve around 8 million visitors, up 14.2% compared to the same period in 2023. In which, there are about 3.6 million tourists staying. The average room occupancy rate at tourist accommodation facilities nationwide reached about 60%, on peak days it reached over 70%. Some coastal destinations achieved occupancy rates of 95-100%.
According to a representative of the National Tourism Agency of Vietnam, in order to meet travel demand, airlines such as Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air have increased night flights , put wide-body aircraft into operation for domestic flights to contribute to supplementing/increasing supply capacity.
To adapt to high domestic airfares, many travel companies have diversified their product types towards increasing high-quality automobile tours on short distances, combining trains, automobiles, and waterways on long distances. This both reduces costs and enhances the experience for visitors.
The railway sector also saw additional trains from Hanoi to Dong Hoi, Vinh, Thanh Hoa, Lao Cai, HCMC, and vice versa; from HCMC to Da Nang, Nha Trang, Phan Thiet, Quy Nhon and reduce ticket prices for train passengers. Domestic waterway ports have added ferries to Cu Lao Cham, Ly Son, Con Dao, Phu Quy, Phu Quoc islands.
In addition, this year’s holiday season recorded a trend of tourists driving themselves to destinations within a close radius for free exploration, experience, and increased initiative in the itinerary.
Since the holiday lasted for 5 days, most destinations received a larger number of visitors, longer stays, and higher revenue compared to the same period in 2023. Notably, the number of international visitors is still growing well even though the peak season has passed. There are no significant fluctuations in room rates and tourism services. The situation of security and order, environmental sanitation, food safety and hygiene at tourist destinations is ensured.
The initiative to prepare and organize many large-scale cultural events, festivals, and sports events in localities, tourism centers, especially the participation of businesses, have created new tourism products, promoted the demand for entertainment, sightseeing, and leisure during the holiday season and this summer’s tourism peak.
