The SAIC-GM-WULING joint venture has officially unveiled the Starlight sedan at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show. The arrival of the WULING Starlight promises to make the electric vehicle market increasingly vibrant, while affirming the Chinese automaker’s great ambition in the global electric vehicle sector.
The Wuling Starlight is built on the Tianyu EV platform, a versatile platform compatible with EV, PHEV, HEV and EREV types.
The car has dimensions of 4,835 mm long x 1,860 mm wide x 1,515 mm high and a wheelbase of 2,800 mm. The overall design of the Starlight EV is still close to the PHEV version, except for the closed grille and the LED daytime running lights which are converted to an L-shape. The details on the sides and rear of the car remain unchanged. The car runs on 18-inch wheels, and the drag coefficient is 0.228Cd.
Inside, the Wuling Starlight is equipped with the most modern technologies available today. These include a center console with two screen size options of 10.1 inches for the standard version and 15.6 inches for the high-end version, a D-shaped steering wheel. Other amenities include applications such as iQiyi and QQ Music, 6-way power driver’s seat, USB charging ports and ISOFIX child seat interface.
Powering the car is a 100 kW electric motor, combined with a lithium iron phosphate battery pack with a capacity of 41.9 kWh or 54.3 kWh, providing an operating range according to the CLTC standard of 410 km and 510 km respectively. The maximum speed is 150 km/h.
The Wuling Starlight has an extremely competitive price. The lowest version costs 109,800 yuan, equivalent to about 384 million dong, while the highest version is sold for 119,800 yuan, equivalent to about 419 million dong. This price is considered attractive compared to many other electric vehicles on the market, creating a strong attraction for Starlight at the exhibition.
