Dong Anh is a suburban district of Hanoi with excellent infrastructure. It boasts three major bridges, a well-developed and modern transportation system, and a rapidly urbanizing landscape, making it a dynamic and evolving area.

By 2025, the city aims to transform Dong Anh into a district. Several infrastructure projects are underway to support this goal, including the completion of Ring Road 3, the $4 billion Smart City project, and the $35 billion Vinhomes Co Loa development.

The Smart City project, also known as BRG Smart City, is a $4.2 billion mega-development located at the foot of the Nhat Tan Bridge. Spanning 2.72 square kilometers, it is a joint venture between two leading developers from Vietnam and Japan: BRG and Sumitomo.

The project is divided into five phases and is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2032. It will serve as a new financial and commercial hub in the northern gateway of Hanoi. The centerpiece of the project is the 108-story Phuong Trach Financial Tower, poised to become the largest financial center in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.

Vinhomes Co Loa is a model eco-urban area developed by Vingroup and the Vietnam Exhibition Fair Center (VEFAC). Spanning almost 3.9 square kilometers, it offers a range of residential options, including detached villas, semi-detached villas, terraced houses, and shophouses.

The project covers an area of nearly 3 square kilometers for urban development, with a total investment of over VND 42,000 billion. The remaining area is allocated for the National Exhibition Fair Center, spanning over 90 hectares with an indoor construction area of more than 55 hectares and a capacity of over 38,000 people.

The National Exhibition Fair Center will be a unique “exhibition city,” integrating multiple perfect constructions and serving as a landmark for the Co Loa – Dong Anh area.

Additionally, Dong Anh district is investing in several large bridges, including the Tu Lien Bridge, the seventh bridge connecting the city center and districts across the Red River. The Tu Lien Bridge will be the second cable-stayed bridge in Hanoi, after the Nhat Tan Bridge. With a total length of approximately 11.5 kilometers, the project has an estimated investment of VND 20,000 billion.

The Thuong Cat Bridge, with a total length of 5.2 kilometers, spans the Red River and connects Bac Tu Liem district and Dong Anh district. It is expected to commence construction in the fourth quarter of 2024, with a four-year construction period and an anticipated completion in 2028. The main bridge will be 820 meters long and 33 meters wide, accommodating eight lanes of traffic, while the two-way roads will be 50-60 meters wide.

The photo shows the Thang Long Bridge after a repair in late 2020. The bridge currently has two levels, with four lanes on the upper level for cars and two lanes on the lower level for non-motorized vehicles. Hanoi plans to build a new Thang Long Bridge connecting Bac Tu Liem district and Dong Anh district, located next to the existing Thang Long Bridge.

In the 2023-2028 period, Ring Road 3 through Dong Anh district will be implemented, completing the ring road. The road will be nearly 15 kilometers long, with a total investment of nearly VND 8,000 billion. The starting point of the road will intersect with the Hanoi – Thai Nguyen expressway, and the endpoint will connect with Vo Van Kiet street in Nam Hong commune, Dong Anh district.
