On May 21st, the National Assembly Standing Committee submitted to the National Assembly a list of nominees for the election of the State President. The National Assembly discussed the list of nominees within the delegations.

On the morning of May 22nd, the National Assembly Standing Committee reported on the explanation and absorption of National Assembly deputies’ opinions discussed within the delegations on the list of nominees for the election of the State President.
After discussing and adopting the list of candidates for the election of the State President, the National Assembly proceeded to elect the State President by secret ballot.
Then, the Counting Committee reported the election results.
The National Assembly Standing Committee submitted to the National Assembly a draft resolution on the election of the State President for the National Assembly to discuss and adopt the resolution on the election of the State President.
Immediately after the adoption of the resolution, according to the Constitution, the new State President will take an oath and deliver an inaugural speech.
Also on May 22nd, the National Assembly will carry out the procedure for approving the member of the National Defense and Security Council as proposed by the State President.
Regarding the personnel nominated for the election of the State President, at the 9th Conference of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam XIII, held on the morning of May 16th, the Central Committee gave opinions on the personnel for the National Assembly to elect the State President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for the term 2021-2026.
Specifically, the Central Committee agreed to introduce General To Lam, member of the Politburo, Minister of Public Security, for the National Assembly to elect as State President.
