Ho Chi Minh City Invites South Korea to Collaborate on Diverse Investment Opportunities

The leadership of Ho Chi Minh City reaffirms its commitment to standing alongside and facilitating South Korean businesses wishing to invest and operate within the metropolis.

On May 13, Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, in collaboration with the government of Chungcheongbuk Province, South Korea, organized the Ho Chi Minh City – Chungcheongbuk Trade and Investment Cooperation Forum.

At the forum, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, Vo Van Hoan, affirmed that the city is prioritizing the digital and green transformation process, aiming towards sustainable development, with a focus on high technology, auxiliary industries, microelectronics, semiconductors, finance and banking, information technology, and logistics.

Mr. Tran Phu Lu, Director of the City’s Investment and Trade Promotion Center (ITPC), provided an overview of the city’s investment environment and incentives, as well as notable points from Resolution 98 on special mechanisms and policies for the development of Ho Chi Minh City.

Leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, Chungcheongbuk Province, and the Vietnamese Ambassador to South Korea exchanged ideas at the Ho Chi Minh City – Chungcheongbuk Trade and Investment Cooperation Forum.

Mr. Phu Lu emphasized Ho Chi Minh City’s prominent advantages over other localities, attributing them to the city’s continuous administrative reforms, creating a favorable investment environment, and actively supporting investors in solving difficulties and problems.

Mr. Kim Myung Kyoo, Vice Governor of Chungcheongbuk Province, commended Ho Chi Minh City’s economic progress in all sectors, especially high-tech and green technology industries, which have witnessed remarkable development in recent times.

“Chungcheongbuk Province has achieved success in four key industries: battery manufacturing, solar and new energy industries; semiconductor industry; biotechnology; and information technology. We are ready to cooperate with Ho Chi Minh City, leveraging our strengths to achieve our common development goals,” shared Mr. Kim Myung Kyoo.

The forum aimed to foster trade and investment cooperation between the two localities.

On this occasion, the leaders of Ho Chi Minh City and Chungcheongbuk Province witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding and economic contracts between organizations and enterprises from Vietnam and South Korea in areas such as airport development, logistics, trade promotion, food, and healthcare.

Vice Chairman Vo Van Hoan highlighted the friendly and cooperative relationship between Vietnam and South Korea over the past 30 years, since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992, and the upgrade to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2022.

Specifically, the cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and South Korea has seen notable progress in recent years, particularly in the fields of economy, investment, trade, and tourism.

South Korea is one of the largest investors in Ho Chi Minh City, ranking fourth among countries and territories investing in the city.

In terms of trade, the two sides prioritize areas such as electronic equipment, agricultural products, seafood, textiles, and footwear. The trade turnover between Ho Chi Minh City and South Korea reached 4.3 billion USD in 2023.
