In response to the volatile global gold market, domestic gold prices have experienced significant fluctuations, rising rapidly and deviating from international prices. To stabilize the gold market, the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) has implemented a direct gold-selling scheme to four state-owned commercial banks (Vietcombank, BIDV, Vietinbank, and Agribank) and the Saigon Jewelry Company Limited – SJC. These entities will sell gold directly to the public starting today (June 3rd).
Regarding the gold-selling price, the state-owned commercial banks and SJC will determine and announce the SJC gold bar selling price on their websites and at the designated sales locations, based on the gold bar purchasing price from the State Bank.
SJC and the banks emphasized that the gold sales aim to ensure the stabilization of the gold market in line with the government’s and SBV’s directives, rather than profit-making.
For gold purchases, individuals must bring their identification documents as per regulations and visit the designated sales locations of the above-mentioned banks and company. Payment can be made in cash or via bank transfer, with the gold being delivered immediately. An electronic invoice will be provided to the buyer.
Notably, the state-owned commercial banks will only sell SJC gold bars to individual customers and will not purchase gold bars from them. In contrast, the SJC will engage in all gold bar BUY-SELL transactions.
In case of a large gold purchase, to comply with anti-money laundering regulations, buyers should prepare information for declaration or open an account with the state-owned commercial banks beforehand. Alternatively, they can opt for a bank transfer for a more convenient and faster transaction.
Currently, the four banks and SJC have announced a total of 36 sales locations across 11 provinces and cities, as listed below:
