Mr. Dau Ngoc Hung, Head of the Agricultural, Forestry, and Fisheries Statistics Department, commented that unlike the previous situation of “good harvest but low price,” in the first six months of this year, many key agricultural products enjoyed both high output and prices, contributing to enhancing the value of agricultural products and the income of producers.
Notably, durian production increased significantly by 20.3% this year, and the price remained high. In Tien Giang province, at the beginning of the main harvest season in late March 2024, durian was purchased from gardens at a price ranging from VND 140,000 to 215,000 per kg, with the Mongthong variety fluctuating between VND 200,000 and 230,000 per kg. Meanwhile, the Ri6 durian variety was priced at VND 130,000 to 145,000 per kg, an increase of about VND 30,000 compared to March 2023, and the highest increase ever.
By mid-May, the price of Mongthong durian still ranged from VND 100,000 to 110,000 per kg, while Ri6 durian was at VND 60,000 to 70,000 per kg, higher than the same period last year by VND 10,000-15,000 per kg.
Mr. Hung added that with these prices, durian farmers could earn a profit of about VND one billion per hectare after deducting expenses.
