Fourteen defendants have been indicted in the Xuyen Viet Oil case.
At the regular press conference of the Government on July 6, the press asked the Ministry of Public Security to provide updates on the investigation of cases related to the electricity, gasoline, and oil sectors, as well as the Phuoc Son, CTCP Tap doan Thuan An, and the recent case involving Mr. Nguyen Van Yen, former Deputy Head of the Central Internal Affairs Commission.
In response to the media’s inquiries, Major General Hoang Anh Tuyen, Deputy Chief of the Office of the Ministry of Public Security and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Public Security, stated that, in the case of mismanagement leading to wastefulness, irresponsibility, and serious consequences, along with bribery, abuse of position, and influence-peddling at Cong Ty TNHH Thuong mai Van tai va Du lich Xuyen Viet Oil and several related organizations, the Ministry of Public Security’s Security Investigation Agency has indicted fourteen defendants across five groups of offenses.
The investigation identified two main issues:
First, the subjects took advantage of their state management functions in the fields of gasoline and oil trading, taxation, and banking to obtain and extend gasoline and oil business licenses even when they did not meet the prescribed conditions.
Second, Mai Thi Hong Hanh and her accomplices illegally used the gasoline and oil price stabilization fund and the environmental protection tax for business and personal activities. In addition, Hanh also used a portion of the funds to establish relationships and offer bribes.
The Security Investigation Agency of the Ministry of Public Security is expediting the investigation, clarifying the responsibilities of related individuals for handling in accordance with the law, while also continuing to verify, freeze, and confiscate the assets of the involved subjects to ensure the recovery of state assets.
Focusing on the Phuoc Son and Thuan An cases, the investigation is clarifying the violations of Mr. Nguyen Van Yen.
Regarding the case involving Phuoc Son, CTCP Tap doan Thuan An, and Mr. Nguyen Van Yen, Major General Hoang Anh Tuyen affirmed that the Public Security Agency has focused on investigating and clarifying the case in accordance with the law. Specific results will be announced to the press.
In a related development, at a working session with the Central Internal Affairs Commission, Mr. Luong Cuong, member of the Politburo and Permanent Member of the Secretariat, expressed his deep sympathy to the officials and employees of the Central Internal Affairs Commission regarding the recent incident involving a former deputy head of the commission, who has been disciplined and criminally handled.
According to Mr. Luong Cuong, the Permanent Member of the Secretariat, this violation is of a personal nature but has affected the reputation of the agency, the Steering Committee, and the people’s trust.
Mr. Luong Cuong encouraged and expressed his hope that the officials and employees of the Central Internal Affairs Commission would consider this a valuable lesson, always be vigilant and prudent, and continuously cultivate their political stance, morality, lifestyle, and working style. At the same time, he requested that the officials and employees of the Central Internal Affairs Commission thoroughly grasp and strictly implement the directions of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
