The New Wage Revolution: Encouraging Businesses to Pay Above the Norm in Ca Mau

The Department of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs in Ca Mau province has issued guidance on implementing the new regional minimum wage, effective July 1, per Government Decree 74/2024/ND-CP dated June 30, 2024.

The new monthly and hourly minimum wages will apply to employees working under employment contracts and employers paying employees based on regions. Ca Mau province does not have any districts in Region I; it only has regions II and below.

Specifically, a monthly wage of VND 4.41 million or an hourly rate of VND 21,200 applies to enterprises operating in Ca Mau city (Region II).

Enterprises based in Region III, including U Minh, Tran Van Thoi, Cai Nuoc, and Nam Can districts, will implement a monthly wage of VND 3.86 million or VND 18,600 per hour.

For Region IV, comprising Thoi Binh, Dam Doi, Phu Tan, and Ngoc Hien districts, the monthly wage is VND 3.45 million or VND 16,600 per hour.

The Department of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs instructs that enterprises with multiple branches and units operating in areas with different minimum wages should apply the respective regional minimum wage rates for each branch or unit.

Enterprises in industrial parks located in areas with varying minimum wages should follow the rate applicable to the area with the highest minimum wage.

For employees paid weekly, daily, by piecework, or on a contract basis, the wage must not be lower than the monthly or hourly minimum wage set by the government.

The guidance from Ca Mau’s Department of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs encourages enterprises to adopt minimum wage rates higher than those mandated by the government when paying their employees.
