Duy Tan Plastics – Midu’s Husband’s Family Business

Recently, the wedding of actress Midu and Tran Duy Minh Dat, the son of a prominent Vietnamese plastic company, has captured public attention. Minh Dat is the son of Tran Duy Hy, Chairman of the Board and General Director of Duy Tan Plastics Joint Stock Company.

Established on October 15, 1987, Duy Tan Plastics is a member of the SCGP Group. From a small production unit, it has now become one of the largest plastic manufacturers in Vietnam, with five modern factories in the southern region. The brand is present in more than 60 countries and territories worldwide.

After multiple capital increases, in November 2020, Duy Tan Plastics further raised its capital to 1,700 billion VND, with the shareholder structure not disclosed.

In 2021, Duy Tan Plastics announced the completion of the transfer of 70% of its shares in the plastic packaging and household plastics segment to SCGP, a subsidiary of SCG (Thailand). The transaction value did not exceed 6,400 billion VND, depending on the business results of 2020 and 2021. Duy Tan retained and focused on developing two other segments: recycled plastics and high-tech plastics, contributing to environmental improvement and high-value-added products.

Previously, in 2019, Duy Tan Plastics recorded revenue and profit of 4,478 billion VND and 181 billion VND, respectively. In 2020, the company achieved revenue of 4,700 billion VND, an increase of nearly 5% over the same period, with total assets of about 5,000 billion VND.

Long Thanh Plastics – The Company Associated with Minh Nhua

Mr. Pham Tran Nhat Minh, also known as Minh Nhua, is the only son of businessman Pham Van Muoi, Chairman and General Director of Long Thanh Plastics Co., Ltd. Minh Nhua is well-known among the public for his luxurious branded items and a supercar collection worth millions of dollars.

Currently, Mr. Pham Tran Nhat Minh serves as the Vice President of Long Thanh Plastics. According to its website, Long Thanh Plastics has four branches in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Danang, and Can Tho. The company also owns a factory of the same name located in Binh Tan District, Ho Chi Minh City.

Long Thanh Plastics is well-known for its plastic crates for renowned beverage brands such as Heineken, Bia Saigon, Tiger, Budweiser, Coca-Cola, and Pepsi. Its two main products are plastic pallets and corrugated plastic sheets (also known as plastic bins or trays). These products are essential for large factories and warehouses, especially in the garment, seafood, and logistics industries.

According to the company’s disclosures, plastic pallets and corrugated plastic sheets account for 70-80% of its revenue. In addition, Long Thanh Plastics is a packaging supplier to two of the leading pesticide companies in the market, Bayer and Syngenta.

In 2016 and 2017, Long Thanh Plastics’ net revenue reached 1,035 billion VND and 968.6 billion VND, respectively, with net profits of 91.74 billion VND and 67.88 billion VND. In 2019, the company’s net revenue and profit increased by 3.2% and 79%, respectively, compared to 2018, reaching 882 billion VND and 95 billion VND.

In 2022, the company’s revenue was estimated at 1,000 billion VND, placing it in the mid-range compared to larger corporations such as Duy Tan, Binh Minh Plastics, and Tien Phong Plastics, which have revenues ranging from 5,000 to 6,000 billion VND.

Tan Hiep Hung – The Company Associated with Ong Cao Thang

Ong Cao Thang is known for his career as a singer in the group WEboys and his relationship with singer Dong Nhi. After his time in the entertainment industry, Ong Cao Thang moved behind the scenes and became the owner and manager of the entertainment company 6SE.

However, alongside his personal business ventures, Ong Cao Thang is also the heir to the Tan Hiep Hung Corporation in Ho Chi Minh City. According to its website, Tan Hiep Hung is headquartered on 3/2 Street, District 11, Ho Chi Minh City, with a charter capital of approximately 30 billion VND, which is modest compared to the scale of many other companies in the same industry. Ong Cao Thang holds over 13% of the capital in this family business, with a contribution of 4 billion VND. The company’s legal representative is Mr. Duc So (born in 1953), who serves as the Director.

The company’s website also states that Tan Hiep Hung’s main products include household items, medical equipment, restaurant services, food industry products, and gardening supplies. The product range is diverse and includes basins, knives, plates, trays, cups, and more.

Currently, Tan Hiep Hung is a partner and supplier to well-known brands such as KFC, Lotteria, Coca-Cola, and Pepsi.
