The Road to Freedom is Blocked: A Traffic Snarl on Duong Giai Phong

This morning, traffic authorities implemented a new strategy by "blocking" off a section of Giai Phong Street, diverting buses departing from Giap Bat Station directly onto National Highway 1A and the expressway. This unexpected maneuver caused significant congestion on Giai Phong Street during rush hour, impacting the usual flow of traffic.

From early this morning (July 8th), the inter-branch force, along with Gia Bat Bus Station staff, stood on Giai Phong Street to block traffic in both directions, allowing buses from Gia Bat Bus Station to turn directly onto National Highway 1.

This action was agreed upon and implemented by the Hanoi Inter-branch Public Security and Transport Department by opening a median strip on Giai Phong Street. In the first few days, the functional forces will be present to guide and block traffic, and in the following days, they will regulate traffic using signal lights.

Over the past two days, vehicles leaving the Gia Bat Bus Station have been turning directly onto Giai Phong Street without having to turn right onto Kim Dong Street to make a U-turn, thus avoiding the previous traffic congestion.

During the peak hour of July 8th morning, due to the high volume of vehicles on Giai Phong Street, when approaching the section near the Gia Bat Bus Station, vehicles had to wait for an extended period for buses to cross, resulting in congestion on both sides of the street.

After several prolonged periods of congestion, the functional forces had to adjust the departure time of buses from the station, giving priority to vehicles on Giai Phong Street.

According to the management of Gia Bat Bus Station, based on the operational schedule, the station handles over 900 bus trips per day. Therefore, the regulation of bus departures onto Giai Phong Street must be well-coordinated between the functional forces to prevent congestion both within the station and on the road.

The Inter-branch Public Security and Transport Department stated that the change in the route of buses after departing from Gia Bat Bus Station to Giai Phong Street aims to reduce the number of vehicles entering Kim Dong Street and the Kim Dong – Giai Phong intersection during the construction of the underground tunnel. The inter-branch forces are closely monitoring the traffic situation to make necessary adjustments and organize traffic flow accordingly.
