Second working day of the 16th meeting of the Can Tho City People’s Council, term X

Mr. Le Thanh Tam, Director of the Can Tho Department of Planning and Investment, responded to the delegates’ concerns. He stated that based on the orientation of industry development, his department coordinates with the city’s Investment and Trade Promotion Center and other units to promote and facilitate investment in potential and advantageous sectors.

Can Tho has not attracted many businesses to invest in the city

Director Le Thanh Tam acknowledged that investment promotion activities abroad have yielded noticeable benefits. Foreign businesses have gained a better understanding of Can Tho, its people, culture, and especially its potential, advantages, and strategic position within the Mekong Delta region. This enhanced understanding will facilitate future investment attraction.

Can Tho’s strength in agriculture

According to the Director of Planning and Investment, foreign direct investment in Can Tho in the first six months of the year has been modest, with only one enterprise registering to invest in the city with a capital of 150,000 USD. This sole investment falls short of the city’s potential and stature. While foreign investment attraction remains low, many foreign businesses have shown interest and signed memorandums of understanding, with over 50 commitments made. To improve the effectiveness of investment promotion plans, the Department of Planning and Investment will develop specific strategies for better outcomes in the future.

Can Tho’s role as the center of the Mekong Delta region

Mr. Le Thanh Tam added, “Based on the existing master plan and identified priority sectors, we need to formulate concrete investment promotion plans, both domestically and internationally. With a solid legal foundation and a dedicated team, I am confident that our investment promotion efforts will yield significantly better results in the future.”
