What Other Provinces, Aside From Bac Giang, Khanh Hoa, and Thanh Hoa, Recorded Double-Digit GRDP Growth in the First Half of 2024?

The latest data from the General Statistics Office reveals an impressive economic growth story beyond the top three provinces of Bac Giang, Khanh Hoa, and Thanh Hoa. Four other provinces have also joined the elite club, recording a remarkable GRDP growth rate of over 10%.

According to statistics from the General Statistics Office of Vietnam, the country’s GDP in the first half of 2024 grew by 6.42%, just slightly lower than the 6.58% growth rate achieved in the same period in 2022, which was the highest in the 2020-2024 period. Among all provinces and cities, Bac Giang province took the lead with a remarkable GRDP growth rate of 14.14% in the first half of 2024. Khanh Hoa province followed closely with a GRDP increase of 12.73%. Thanh Hoa province secured the third position with an estimated GRDP growth rate of 11.5%.

In addition to the top three aforementioned localities, four other provinces and cities also recorded GRDP growth rates surpassing the 10% threshold, as reported by the General Statistics Office. These outstanding performers include:

Ha Nam: 10.39%

The provincial Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) of Ha Nam in the first six months of 2024 (according to 2010 comparative prices) is estimated at VND 26,891 billion, reflecting a 10.35% increase compared to the same period in 2023. According to the Ha Nam Statistics Office, this GRDP growth rate is the highest the province has achieved since 2021.

Within this overall economic expansion, the industry and construction sector remains the primary driver, with an estimated value of VND 17,443.9 billion in the first half of 2024, marking a 13.26% increase compared to the previous year (contributing 81% to the overall growth). Specifically, the industrial sector alone is estimated at VND 15,491.2 billion, indicating a 14.82% surge compared to the same period last year (contributing 79.3% to the overall growth). Meanwhile, the service sector is estimated at VND 5,693.6 billion, reflecting a 7.22% increase (contributing 15.2% to the overall growth). The agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector is valued at VND 2,131.3 billion, representing a modest 1.06% increase (contributing 0.9% to the overall growth). Lastly, taxes on products minus subsidies on products are estimated at VND 1,622.2 billion, showing a 4.75% increase (contributing 2.9% to the overall growth).

With these impressive results, Ha Nam province ranks first in the Red River Delta region and fourth in the entire country in terms of economic growth.

Hai Phong: 10.32%

Data from the Hai Phong Statistics Office reveals that the city’s GRDP in the first half of 2024 increased by an estimated 10.32% compared to the same period last year, placing it fifth in the country and second in the Red River Delta region. The agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector grew by 0.86%, contributing 0.03 percentage points to the overall growth rate. The industry and construction sector expanded by 12.76%, contributing 6.68 percentage points, while the service sector grew by 8.54%, contributing 3.25 percentage points. Taxes on products minus subsidies on products increased by 5.77%, contributing an additional 0.35 percentage points.

In terms of economic structure in the first half of 2024, the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector accounted for 3.7% of the city’s economy, while the industry and construction sector made up 50.49%. The service sector contributed 40.06%, and taxes on products minus subsidies on products accounted for 5.75%.

Tra Vinh: 10.27%

According to the Tra Vinh Statistics Office, the provincial GRDP in the first half of 2024 is estimated to have increased by 10.27% compared to the same period last year, ranking first in the Mekong Delta region and sixth in the country.

Breaking down the overall economic growth, the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector expanded by 3.51%, contributing 0.94 percentage points to the total growth. The industry and construction sector witnessed a remarkable surge of 22.15%, contributing 7.54 percentage points, while the service sector grew by 5.25%, contributing 1.75 percentage points.

In terms of economic structure in the first half of 2024, the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector accounted for 23.51% of the provincial economy, while the industry and construction sector contributed 40.95%. The service sector made up 30.16%, and taxes on products minus subsidies on products accounted for 5.38% (compared to 25.07%, 37.52%, 31.51%, and 5.9%, respectively, in the first half of 2023).

Hai Duong: 10%

The GRDP of Hai Duong province in the first half of 2024 is estimated to have increased by 10% compared to the same period last year, surpassing the initial growth scenario of 8.22%. Specifically, the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector grew by 3.52%, while the industry and construction sector expanded by 13.71%. The service sector recorded a growth rate of 6.93%, and taxes on products minus subsidies on products increased by 4.9%. With these achievements, Hai Duong province ranks third in the Red River Delta region and seventh in the country in terms of economic growth.
