FoodMap Apologizes for Inappropriate Spokesperson Choice
CEO of FoodMap, Pham Ngoc Anh Tung, took to his personal page to address the recent incident involving criticism of Hang Du Muc and Quang Linh Vlog for eating too much durian during a livestream.
In a nearly 2,000-word statement, Tung explained that the July 7 livestream was organized by TikTok Shop and featured KOLs and various brands, including FoodMap, which supplied the durians.

“For this livestream, FoodMap was not only the supplier but also the operator, bearing the highest responsibility for the quality of products delivered to consumers. This means that in case of any incident, FoodMap would suffer the greatest material loss, not the farmers, as the durians had already been purchased and deposited.”, said Tung.
He added that at the time of the livestream, 18 tons of durians had already been purchased from farmers, packaged, and assembled at FoodMap’s coordination centers nationwide.
Without mentioning O Huyen Sau Rieng by name, Tung acknowledged that FoodMap had collaborated with an “inappropriate spokesperson during the livestream, who represented one of the farmers from whom FoodMap sourced products, unintentionally creating an unfortunate situation and receiving mixed reactions from the community.”
“The fault lies with FoodMap and myself. I sincerely apologize if this has caused any harm to anyone or any related parties.”, said the CEO of FoodMap.

Following the incident, Tung shared that the first eight hours were extremely stressful as he had never faced such a significant crisis before. He strived to accept the situation and carefully listened to the community’s feedback across various platforms.
Regarding the business figures after the dramatic livestream and the subsequent calls for returns, the CEO of FoodMap revealed that as of 6:00 PM on July 10, over 95% of the initial 18 tons of durians had been successfully delivered, 3% were in the process of being delivered, and less than 2% had been returned.
This translates to nearly 360 kg of returned durians and approximately 540 kg in the process of being delivered.
“From a business perspective, all campaigns are carefully calculated to ensure effectiveness, especially for a startup in the agricultural e-commerce sector, as operating a fresh agricultural product retail business is extremely challenging.”
“However, I, along with the FoodMap team, stand by our actions in this matter. If our plans don’t go as intended, even if we suffer a loss of 20 tons or more, the FoodMap team is ready to accept it without a single complaint. Because youth means ‘having the courage to take responsibility’“, Tung shared.
He explained that he patiently waited until the campaign was almost over and they had basic data and fulfilled most of their responsibilities and obligations to customers and partners before officially addressing the controversy, regardless of the outcome. He also apologized if his delayed response caused any inconvenience.
“To conclude, I would like to share a small story: At FoodMap, each official employee receives a letter titled ‘Join Us on a Journey Across the Ocean’. FoodMap is like a small boat with ambitious young people sailing in a vast ocean full of wonders. Sometimes the sea is stormy, and sometimes it is calm.”
“I and the FoodMap team understand and view these experiences as essential for our personal growth and a solid foundation for realizing our vision in the agricultural sector, with a mission to contribute to enhancing the value of agricultural products and serving as an extended arm for Vietnamese agricultural produce to reach further”, shared the CEO of FoodMap.
After the recent livestream incident, FoodMap has been continuously attacked on social media and e-commerce platforms. Their rating on Tiktok Shop dropped to 3.7/5 stars, and they have since removed all their products from the platform. On their Facebook page, the agricultural startup has also restricted commenting and hidden the number of reactions.
